It gets difficult because even for entry level jobs, high competition and a high number of graduating students means that people with degrees get hired over people without degrees. The irony is that pretty soon, it is going to be more commonplace for people working at McDonalds to have bachelors degrees than just high school diplomas. So, in a way, such strong competition even for low-paying jobs reinforces the need to get a degree. Our model is inefficient and without any sort of regulations, we pay increased costs. Did you know that when you visit the hospital, your bill is inflated over 100% to cover those who were not able to pay? I know in my county, when you get a speeding ticket, a substantial portion of the ticket goes to fund local health care. My point is, we are ALREADY subsidizing others. There is no way around it? Do you really think that hospitals would still be in business if they didn't inflate costs to cover those who couldn't pay? You would think we could streamline the process a little bit. And also, I am so tired of that individualistic narcissistic and stereotypical American attitude. Want to worry about your family and only your family? Great. But then don't take my stupid social security or use the roads and water my taxes subsidize for you. I only hope if you start having some troubles that you and your family aren't met with the same stupidity and blanket comments on responsibility.
