Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : The 9/12

1. No, it's not just this administration--but this administration has upped the pace considerably. 2. I don't care if you're from the left or right, if you want more government intrusion in my life, or anyone else's, I'm against that. That's both the leftists who want to tax smokers and polluters into oblivion so they can buy votes, and the pandering religious right who want to make sure everyone lives by their morals. 3. A website to discuss and debate various points of governmental policies. An organization to determine wages, working conditions, and often political activities of members through pressure and contractual obligations,, whose members are employed in the same trade or company. While those two concepts are certainly similar enough that I can see why you're confused, this is definitely NOT a union.

This is why I often find myself at odds with other Christians: they often don't understand that I can want a secular government. It's because laws have never yet changed a person's attitudes; if you want someone to believe as you do, you have to persuade them, not legislate them into submission. That said, I can understand a lot of their distress: PC has spent decades trying to complete suppress the rights of anyone, especially Christians, to express their views. PC-ists (mostly Democrats, but no one's got a monopoly on this mindless PC garbage) define "intolerance" not as "trying to force others to believe as you do" but as "refusing to dilute your beliefs by saying every view has the same validity"--and are remarkably intolerant of people who disagree with them. (Case in point: a Christmas festival in Chicago was ordered by the city not to show a trailer for New Line's film about the Nativity, for fear of offending someone.) A lot of people have been so afraid of state-sponsored religion that they've pushed to the point of suppressing all religious displays, and it is understandable, though still wrong, that religious people are trying to overcorrect.

Exactly...tolerance is a two-way street, as long as by tolerance you mean "respecting others' rights to believe differently" and not the new PC tolerance which means "you can't say you think someone's wrong, or anything that might offend someone."

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Hey GM, want more bailout money? Your CEO has to go.

Pretty much--they're in a position where they can't be touched, and in 2-4 years, when we can finally make the will of the people clear again, it'll take decades to undo the damage. And that's what's happened since Wilson: fascists or socialists make huge strides to strengthen government, the pendulum swings the other way and we push back--but never quite as far as they pushed, and in another decade they'll grab power again, pushing even further. Obama is the culmination, but too many people are just blaming him.

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Depression-Era Flashback

This is basically a gift certificate, and not technically illegal...but if they were using their own currency, why should that be illegal? Can anyone point out how it hurts other people to trade something of value to someone else who wants it, in return for a good or service? Even if the thing being traded isn't one of those nice pieces of paper the government pulls out of thin air?

Deliberately misinformed--socialist-minded government schools have spent decades making as many people as possible facile government servants who think that the government's job is not to protect our rights but to "help everyone out." So socialism is seen as "fairness" or "helping the oppressed," rather than the greatest instrument of oppression ever created.

This is a ludicrous distraction...Don't say "Oh God, 17 socialists," rather focus on the policies that are contributing to the expansion of government. I don't give a flying crap if someone is a member of a socialist organization or not, I care if they're expanding government at the expense of our freedom--that's a problem all of those 545 have contributed to for years, not just the 17 "identified socialists."

Big Hollywood : Why 'Atlas Shrugged' Matters

I don't think anyone can honestly claim America improved. I think the seeds of the financial crisis were planted with the Clinton-era subprime loan requirements and got more than their share of water under George Bush. However, with emergency spending and expansion of power, the Obama administration has run up almost as much of a deficit and stomped on the Constitution almost as much in their first two months than in Bush's last two years. I'm not a dogmatic Republican; I'm a proud Libertarian Party member, and I criticized George Bush too. I'm not saying Bush was great, I'm saying Obama is doing the same thing--expanding government, spending like mad, and trashing our freedoms--but faster.

I've got to disagree. An unborn child is not an "impediment to fun," it's a living being--not fully developed, true, anymore than a 6-year-old is fully developed. While I oppose abortion on a religious/moral level, I don't think it should be illegal because of my religious convictions. It should be illegal because it violates someone's right to life without due process. In a way I admire Peter Singer for having the stones to say "Yes, a fetus is a human being, but it's okay to kill it," rather than dancing around it with "this isn't a human being at all."

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : America's Wish List

1. Establish a non-partisan "Tenth Amendment Commission." This should be made up of unbiased Constitutional scholars and unattached to any particular government agency, and should go through every existing federal law, regulation, program, or agency and point out which ones violate the Tenth Amendment. Those that do should be cut immediately. The Commission should also review proposed laws for Tenth Amendment violations. 2. Repeal the Sixteenth Amendment, eliminate the income tax, and establish the FairTax. 3. Repeal the Seventeenth Amendment. Originally, Representatives represented the people and Senators were the official ambassadors of the state governments. The Seventeenth Amendment made the Senate a popularly elected body. Right now the Palestinian Authority has more official representation in Washington than the government of Texas. 4. No deficits. If your laundry list of desired programs costs more than you have, too bad; you have to cut something. 5. Line item veto. 6. All members of Congress must read every line of every bill--not assume that it's okay or have an intern focused on keeping their job by kissing the Senator's rear summarize it, actually READ IT YOURSELF. If you don't read it, you don't get to vote on it. 7. Re-establish the gold standard. Printing money whenever we want is a time bomb. Also, end the ban on barter/commodities trading. If one person wants to pay in gold or copper for a product, and the producer is willing to accept that, there is no reason it should be illegal. 8. Eliminate: the Department of Education--education drastically improves when control is at a local level; the FCC--free speech applies to TV and radio as much as to publishing; the NEA--making a living off your art is not a guaranteed right; and above all the FED--unelected bank CEOs should not have complete control over our economy. 9. End the War on Drugs. Treatment is cheaper (according to one study, seven times cheaper) and more effective than simple warehousing. It also stops the tactics of treating junkies like the IDF treats potential suicide bombers: kicking in the doors and sticking submachine guns in their faces. While this may be appropriate to deal with heavily armed and violent dealers, it is not appropriate for the burned-out and truly pitiful individuals the tactics are often used against.

Here's a simple idea that's more fair: Eliminate the income, payroll, and capital taxes. All of them. Then replace the 22% of every item's price that goes to covering the producers' tax burden with a national 23% sales tax--maintaining the same level of revenue but allowing taxpayers to keep their earnings. Provide a credit equal to the tax rate (23%) of spending up to the poverty line as determined according to family size, so that poverty-level spending is not taxed at all. No tax code necessary, no filing, no IRS. Contact your representative and demand the FairTax NOW. www.fairtax.org
