TheDestinLog.com : Man batters woman, tells deputy \'I can do that because she\'s my girlfriend\' (MUG) | girlfriend, m

You are assuming an awful lot from just the few lines of this story. Your apparent misogynistic attitudes must stem from too many unhappy relationships. I am not an exception at all. You are perhaps choosing women who conform to your already low opinion of them and overlooking the MANY others who are lovely both inside and out. You get what you pay for.

Do you ever get tired of your own misogyny??????? He's not a stupid sucker or deceived by a manipulating woman; he's just a sociopath (or worse). She's the stupid one for staying with a man like that for two years.. Yes, Adam and Eve is indeed another story.

I especially love to read and re-read The Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Aeneid (which is Roman but with Greek counterpart deities). The gods behave like crazy humans and the crazy humans behave like they're gods. A good message lasts through the centuries. I won't stoop to the Doctor/God jokes, but powerful church leaders sometimes seem to act like demi-gods or assume God speaks through them. I think that's part of Mary's complaint.

Again, another point of agreement. We are made in God's image and should strive to be like Him (not that we can, but we have to try).I hate it when someone like the bikini Burger King brawler is called an "animal." That insults animals who often behave better than most people.

But the Olympians and the lessers behaved horribly. Remember the rape of Leda by the Swan (Zeus) as just one example of their moral depravity. They were jealous, petty, squabbling, selfish, etc. Not a good example for mankind to emulate or praise in worship. God is without flaw.

You believe "Mary sees the truth and light only" because your opinion and hers coincide on this issue. But there are others who could say the devil is having a field day with her head. Like opinions, everyone has their own version of the truth. By the way, I can name way more than 12 Greek deities, unless you are refering to the 14 Olympians minus Kronos and Rhea. As a kid, I practically memorized Edith Hamilton's Mythology. And I'm pretty good with the Egyptian pantheon as well. For me, I just want ONE God the Father, God the Son Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit.

You are over-looking the heart of the person who is seeking a personal connection with the Creator. This relationship is the foundation for strength, comfort, joy, and eternal hope. Such a person is not a mental cripple or a primitive clinging to superstitions and fantasy. We all need that SOMEONE whether we admit it or not. You go on and on about churches paying taxes, etc., but the real issue here is the broken hearted who have discovered that "church" is not God's house but a lovely building for people in Sunday best to gather and feel good (until the in-fighting starts).

I am walking in Mary's sandals. I have been hurt by churches, especially church leaders. When I left my last church, I grieved over the loss of felowship and love I felt from MOST of the congregation. But the powerful board of deacons seemed to be making it up as they went along. And the claim was always that God was supportive of whatever new rule or policy they came up with. If I hear you correctly, I need to seek a church where the spiritual attitudes match scripture (i.e. the heart of God). So far, the quest is not going well. By the way, Dr. S means well, but he takes some getting used to. I, too, disagree with him on this issue, but he is receptive to different viewpoints.

Testing the spirit is not that easy to do. The human factor clouds the right divination of what's REAL in a church and what are personal notions turned into policy. Power-hungry church leaders tend to dictate what God wants the church to be. And they sign His name to it.

I don't see any "sunlight shining into" Mary's mind. I read pain and confusion. And those who have had similar experiences with the CHURCH would empathize with that. The line about curling up into God's lap for comfort was very poignant.

I have a SUGGESTION. Why don't YOU be civil regardless of how the adversary responds. You can only control your own emotions. You cannot control someone else's. Besides, if every time you respond with courtesy, you give the opponent less power to fire back. Just stay cool, logical, factual, and resist the below-the-belt rejoinders. Didn't you take any psychology courses in college?
