It's because that new iPhone is so reflective and pretty it blinds them to anything except feeling like a better person than anyone who doesn't have one, whether they wanted one or not.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : IDC says Apple finished 2011 on top of the Smartphone world, here are the numbers

The drive for any business is ultimately making the most money possible, Apple does do a good job of maximizing profits on the market share they ALREADY have, but you're deluding yourself if you think that Apple wouldn't love to have more market share and actively moves to acheive that goal, as its primary goal.

You do realize that you contridicted your own argument right? "Apple products don't exist to beat other companies" that part is fine fine in and of itself. However, since your next 2 sentences spell out that Apple wants market share and profits (which are attained by having a better product than a competitior) you have basically both made a statement and proved it wrong in less than 80 words. Ultimately you have to be able to make a case that Apple is trying to market a clearly inferior product in order for your argument to stand up. You can't do that and I don't foresee a time when you will be able to, so go sit in the corner while people who are able to have a coherent conversation do so in peace.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Apple forced to remove all 3G devices except iPhone 4S from German online Apple Store following Moto

Apple breaks the law in Germany and its Germanys fault? Seriously? It doesn't matter how stupid you or I think the law is, Apple is bound to comply with that the same as everyone else when they choose to sell their products there. They have a horde of lawyers who really should have been able to see this coming, and maybe they did, but somewhere someone decided to go ahead and sell the products in question in Germany, despite German law. Sounds like APPLES fault to me.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Apple combats scalpers with new lottery system for iPhone reservations in Hong Kong

To all those who think that this is a terrible idea and they ought to do things a different way bear in mind they already tried the way that works in most places. If they were to try anything less draconian, riots would ensue, swat teams would be called, innocents would be trampled, civilization would fall, and likely the end of days would commence... in short it would be anarchy. I think they did right by doing what it takes to protect their employees, customers, and (man I hate admitting this) brand image.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Apple is likely the No. 1 smartphone maker, retaking spot from Samsung with 37M iPhones sold

I'm sure he does know what overpriced means. Im sure that since its a subjective term and won't mean exactely the same thing to everyone, he simply defines it differently than you do. To me the purse my wife bought last week was overpriced, to my wife it was deal. Then again, you just like to belittle anyone with an opinion that differs from your own, so this won't sink in anyway.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : $1.99 app sneaks into the App Store, allows tethering via Proxy

Ah, yes the downside of buying a product that uses the walled garden approach to software and o/s. The carriers don't want you tether with out a plan, Apple doesn't like people modifying thier products, ergo you should just forget that tethering is an option unless you are prepared to shell out a bunch of money ofr it.

I find it interesting that you say that, when the numbers don't indicate how many of the sales were new iPhone users versus users upgrading from a previous model. Strong iPhone 4 sales would suggest to me that the numbers may not be quite as indicative of the impending death of Android as you think, since a lot of those were could have been upgrades. Never assume that the numbers you get from anywhere are representative of anything (including what they are supposedly about) unless you get to see all the data, and the collection method.
