Big Hollywood : Same Jon Stewart Who Uses Race Card Doesn't Like Being Dealt One By Fox News

That segment was hilarious. The entire Fox News network has been hammering Stewart round the clock for days and Stewart has only 22 minutes 4 days a week to respond and still manages to win the argument. So, you're saying that because you perceive that some shrill lefties have unjustly pulled the race-card on conservatives in the past, it gives carte blanche to the conservative media to turn the volume up to eleven and throw around accusations of racism at Stewart even though they are well-aware it is unjustified and sensationalist? As the clip showed, Stewart has been mocking politicians in this manner for over a decade. I think one of the reasons Fox is targeting him now is that besides being one of 24-hour cable news' biggest critics, his audience is growing and he's getting better ratings than all Fox News shows bar O'Reilly. He also attracts the key 18-34 yo demographic while Fox News' audience is mostly over 55, decreasing and getting older.

Big Hollywood : Herman Cain Fires Back: Jon Stewart 'Mocked Me With Amos and Andy' Voice

If you don't believe my claims that's fine, but if you watched the Daily Show regularly you'd know that Stewart has parodied past presidents such as Clinton and Bush. And he isn't sparing Obama either. Viacom's pulled most of the Daily Show clips from youtube and it's much more entertaining to watch the down-votes rain down here rather than face-palm at lefty sensationalism on HuffPo.

If the bill is outlining reforms for something as complex and critical as the US health system, for example. The bill is going to be long and multifarious. Cain complaining about this and insisting on three page bills (even tongue-in-cheek) is silly and fair game comedically. I think most of this pearl-clutching over a pretty tame comedic segment is disingenuous and has more do with Stewart being perceived as some sort of threat politically, by right-wing ideologues at the moment.

Putting one-eyed partisan hackery aside, for a moment. Do you seriously consider that clip to be intentionally racist? It's a magnitude tamer than what Rush Limbaugh puts out.

Well, I saw it as Stewart trying to imitate Cain's voice and inflection rather than going full on Amos and Andy. I think Cain and segments of the press trying to spin this into a controversy is grasping at straws, Cain is just as much a target for comedians as any other politician. I'd be more concerned if Stewart were to self-censor and treat him differently to other politicians because the guy happens to be black. Also, Stewart does have a high-profile platform where he can have political impact (ie. 9/11 Responders Bill) but he's never described himself as anything more than a comedian.

I agree, there's nothing wrong with a center-left comedian who's comedic fodder consists of satirizing absurdities and corruption in politics and the media, make fun of a GOP candidate's gaff.

Stewart does impressions of high-profile people all the time. He's done impressions of Obama, Bush, Clinton, Trump, McCain, Michael Steele, Ariana Huffington etc. Cain's gaff was fair game for political satire. I've observed you guys criticize the left-wing ideologues when they accuse the Tea Party of being universally racist at the drop a hat. And their (admittedly weak) evidence was stronger than this. Cain's just trying to manufacture controversy to get in the headlines.

Big Hollywood : Politifact Shows Statistics Don't Support Stewart, So He Turns To Anecdotes

Stewart didn't knowingly lie about Fox News viewers being mis-informed because he was going by several comparative polls that showed this. He was upfront by correcting his comments when Politico concluded that they weren't accurate across the board. I've noticed that Fox News and some of the right-wing blogs seem to have Jon Stewart increasingly in their sights. I'm somewhat curious why this is as he hasn't changed his style of political satire or his views about the 24 hour news networks for over decade. I think it's partially, in Fox News' case, to do with the fact that he's currently getting better ratings than all Fox News programs (except O'Reilly) and a majority of his audience, unlike Fox News, fall into the key 18-34 yo demographic that attract the bulk of advertising dollars. Also, conservative activists seem to think he holds sway with the under 35s and complain when Daily Show clips that mock or satirize the GOP or Fox News go viral, or get played in the media. Yet the conservative blogs and Fox News will play clips from the Daily Show whenever they make fun of Obama, Dems or the unions. Is the conservative establishment worried about his influence heading into 2012?

Big Hollywood : About That E-Mail from Jon Stewart's Producer to Steven Crowder...

They didn't say they aren't booking him because he's a conservative, they said that they only have four interview spots to fill a week, are pitched a lot of people and don't book conservative pundits. With the email saying verbatim "We stick with conservative politicians, sometimes high profile news anchors, and sometimes religious leaders. " Crowder and some of the contributors to this blog are implying that The Daily Show is practicing discrimination against Crowder due to his conservative views, which was not stated or implied in the email. Conservatives are guests on The Daily Show regularly as it makes for good television and the guests are generally high profile. I'm pretty sure they're not going book a lesser-known guy from youtube whether he's conservative or a raging liberal. If Crowder had a prime-time show on Fox News, they'd book him in a second. Both The Daily Show and it's spin-off The Colbert Report seem to be proactive about having conservative guests. I've posted this before, but a good example is this video of Colbert addressing a gathering of GOP congressional staffers and literally begging for interviews with Republican Reps: http://youtu.be/pmL9cZbFgnE

I notice that neither O'Connor or Crowder mentioned the part of the email that says that the Daily Show tends to book conservative politicians, anchors and religious leaders rather than "pundits". They have conservatives of various stripes on the show all the time. To frame this as The Daily Show deliberately not giving conservatives air-time is disingenuous. Although, they will book "pundits" if they are high-profile, with O'Reilly and Huckabee being frequent flyers on the show. And Stewart has been trying to get an interview with Glenn Beck for over a year now. This seems to be is a case of Crowder being politely declined an interview due to not being high profile enough and then him acting unprofessionally and dishonestly by saying that he was rejected due to being a conservative. I think The Daily Show producer has every right to be annoyed at Crowder publicizing a private email to his agent and misrepresenting what was said.

Big Hollywood : Brietbart: The Movie

How exactly is your movie going to end? Jon Hamm as Breitbart standing on a podium in front of a throng of "liberal media" holding his Blackberry phone Weiner cock shot aloft, as an uplifting musical score swells - roll credits? Sounds like a real Howard Beale moment. Comparing a stupid but amusing Congressional sex scandal to top Bush White House officials outting an undercover CIA agent as political retribution is pretty ridiculous. Also, Jon Stewart has given more comedic coverage to the Weiner scandal than any past Republican sex scandal, including one's that involved illegality.

Big Hollywood : 'Primetime Propaganda': 'Daily Show' Tells Steven Crowder 'We Never Book Conservative Pundits'

Stewart and Colbert have conservatives of various stripes on all the time because it makes for good television. Just in past couple of weeks they've had Rumsfeld, a Tea Party rep and a conservative/Christian evangelical historian on their shows. As far as conservative "pundits" go they always have the well known Fox News pundits on when they have a book to promote. I think in this guy's case he's not high profile enough and they were trying to let him down easy. Both O'Reilly and Huckabee have been on numerous times. Bill Kristol, Laura Ingram, Scarborough, Dick Morris, Jonah Goldberg, Chris Wallace (although he's more strait news) and Dennis Miller come to mind. Although The Daily Show does seem to favor conservative politicians/advisers etc as guests over media "pundits". But if they're high profile enough they will want them on. Stewart's been trying to get Glenn Beck on the show for over a year now. But that said, both The Daily Show and Colbert Report are proactive in trying to have conservative guests on their shows. Here's a video Colbert for example, talking to GOP congressional staffers and trying to convince them to be interviewed for his show: http://youtu.be/pmL9cZbFgnE

Here's the Daily Show segment if you're interested: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-may-31-2011... I know the ideologues who don't watch The Daily Show like to brand Stewart a "librul tool" every time he makes fun of one of their sacred cows, but The Daily Show does go after the Dems regularly and usually cuttingly. In this instance he devoted a lot more time to the Weiner affair (and CNN's crappy journalism) than he did to the Rep. Chris Lee scandal which he mentioned in passing. Especially since the implications and photos in the Lee case were considerably more embarrassing.

Just out of interest, If Romney were also out of the picture (Ron Paul would never get the GOP nom) who does that leave as a serious contender for 2012? Trump and Palin are too fringe/ not taken seriously by the general electorate, Santorum (unfortunate name aside) and T-Paw are about as charismatic as a wet lettuce leaves. Gingrich and Bachmann are also pretty underwhelming so far.

Breitbart.com : Comedian Colbert seeking `megaphone made of cash\'

If you've been watching his show recently you'd see that he seems to be taking aim at the loop-hole ridden electoral laws and corporate campaign financing. Additionally, it's in line with his satirical character that he would want to form a PAC like various Fox News pundits. I think The Colbert Report also wants to rattle some cages and run satirical ads in "support" of certain candidates. It should make the never ending 2012 electoral cycle more entertaining.
