I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old, and they get into stuff all the time! I often ask myself, how in the world do they get up on my dresser or counter tops, but it happens. My 3 year old can open prescription bottles with supposedly child proof containers. They even get into the cabinets, which BTW I child proofed myself with cabinet locks. There is no greater loss than the loss of a child. This mother is suffering. What is the use in her going to jail? Everyone is saying that they feel for the child, but remember the child is in a greater place than any of us are now.
