It finally hit me a second ago that we need to change the way we speak when talking about the government. Words are powerful. Often times how we say things effects how we think on a conscience and un-conscience level. It was stated that the Government has an 80% stake in AIG. Putting it this way mentality perpetuates the Government as higher power and nothing could be further from the truth. This is supposed to be a government of the people for the people and in that light the government does not have an 80% stake in ASG, "WE THE PEOPLE" have an 80% stake. As I have said on other posts, I believe in the old adage that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". Is it wrong that AIG spent tax dollars to pay out bonuses? sure. But the root problem is that the Federal government would highjack our money and bail out private business in the first place. No tax dollars to spend, no tax dollars spent on bonuses, no bonus. As far as what to do with the money still on the table to go to AIG? Any company healthy enough to pay out bonuses to its staff certainly is healthy enough to go without any more of our tax money. As for what was said about "Resignation or Suicide", I think we should hold that Senator to his word and ask the same of them for voting to keep their pay raises in this economy.
