"Anyone who knows history, particularly the history of Europe, will, I think, recognize that the domination of education or of government by any one particular religious faith is never a happy arrangement for the people." (Eleanor Roosevelt)

"Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain."

Iowa's motto should be America's motto. What happened?

Dear slum, I'm confused by this, voting "yes" supports the domestic partner laws. What a nightmare!

Dear slum, I was answering a very specific question from Jack. You are unpleasant.

In many colleges around the country, National Boycotts of Marriage are taking place. Straights are joining this fight for equality. It amazes me that others care so much. Look up the site for yourself. It's not my imagination at work.

Tell that to kids in the school yard. The "defined" learn early on what society thinks of them and it isn't pretty.

In general, slanderous comments have been floated not specifically yours. These posts are countering a decade of painful words floated out by Christians, in the name of "love". All posts submitted boil down to separation of church and state. When I speak of God, I'm addressing the comments made by Christians, in the name of, "love".

Dear Slum, O.K., here's a one liner, Separation of church and state. That's what all of these posts boil down to.

Dear Slum, Due to all of the words floated out by "heterosexuals", the past decade has been quite painful. To conveniently counter these words with "one-liners" is impossible. My suggestion would be not to read them if they vex you so. Many things have been said about us, some of them untrue; parsimony, though convenient, would not adequately cover the complicated topics brought up.

You liken us to the most negative aspects of society, necrophilia, child rape, and now burglary. You say that the state recognizes us, but fail to mention the over 1300 rights banned by the Feds. It isn't equal and it's not special. Just because you keep repeating this doesn't make it true. As for Churches being forced to do what is not in their conscience, they are protected. No irreparable harm is being done to the church. The harm coming to the church is being done by their own unwise decisions. This debate is about civil law, but the church is funding much of the opposition to this civil, contractual agreement. That is not acceptable. How should all of these concepts effect civil law, contractual law? What about atheists? What about agnostics? Should they be subject to laws based upon Christians' adamant beliefs? I have no doubt people are passionate about the message of the Bible. Should the government be used to spread that message? If people were being fed (spiritually speaking) at Church, more people would be interested in Church. These hollow, business-like, religions have lost the ability to properly teach the Word with authority. Mega churches run by buffoons, "fly-away" rapture deceptions, cults, and sects have replaced and tainted the Word of God more effectively than anybody opting for equality under the law. The only halfway decent minds that emerged from the Catholic Church were Juan De La Cruz (John of the Cross), Teresa of Avila, and Fulton Sheen. Bellicose, quarrelsome, angry priests filled with anti-gay wrath should direct their disdain towards their own fellow priests, who have disgraced the Catholic Church with rampant pedophilia, child rape. It’s difficult to point out weeds in another’s garden when weeds in one's own are so out of control. A lot of money donated to these men has gone to pay off the victims of molestation, child rape. The highest authority, the Pope, dragged his Papal heels, a scratch likely heard all the way to Heaven. Churches need to stay out of politics and tend to their own gardens. The Catholic Church is a disgrace. Church is no longer a place of healing, but rather a fear-mongering, money generator getting people to dig deeply into their pockets. It is so insulting that pedophilia and necrophilia are likened to gays. Repeat those gems all you want, it doesn't make it true.
