This is so off the topic here but I had to add my 2 cents worth...am I the only one that sees such an injustice in our teachers being paid so little. Here they are expected to not only teach the required subjects but also in a lot of cases having to teach what should be taught by the parents at home: respect, honesty, responsibility, social skills, etc. And then on the other hand you have students becoming professional atheletes making a ton of money and they can't even spell "football". No offense to those atheletes that are also good students and scholars because there are some out there. I just think the system is all "out of whack" and teachers, along with other civil servents, should be paid better.

I can't comment on whether or not the "majority" of drug users are non-violent recreational users or not as I don't have the "facts" to prove or disprove that argument. I just wonder how those people are able to keep their jobs? My employers have all required that their employees all pass random drug tests to stay employed. Please explain to me how legalization will prevent drug related crimes where gangs and territorial related violence are involved? Even if drugs were legal, wouldn't people still have to pay for them? Where would the money come from? Granted if it were legal people couldn't be fired for not passing a "pee" test because the test itself wouldn't be required. But what if these people couldn't perform their job because they were stoned or high, or failed to show up because of drug use (abuse)? Could they be fired? And what about the people that drive around under the influence? Is that okay too? I don't get your reasoning. The church comment probably doesn't have anything to do with this situation. I was just trying to state an example of the "night and day" difference between the type of people that participlate in drug related crimes and those that don't.

OMG!!! You have got to be kidding. Ok, let me spell it out for you S L O W L Y! There are drug users that can't hold jobs because some companies actually have random drug tests. How do you think those drug users get money to buy drugs??? They commit crimes like robbery, auto theft, etc. To me, and other people with a working brain, that is dangerous to society. Then you have the drug users that also sell drugs. I imagine those are not the type of people that go to church on Sunday. I imagine they are the type that carry guns illegally and participate in gang violence and drug wars. I don't know about you but I don't want to live next to them, flying bullets tend to be DANGEROUS to my health.

I disagree...I lived in Singapore for 2 years. They have "zero tollerance" when it comes to crimes such as selling drugs. The person does not sit on death-row for 25 years. Nope, the punishment is death and it comes quickly. I feel that it is for this very reason that Singapore is one of the safest and cleanest places I have ever been.

I don't see how they think letting inmates go early will save money. Have they not thought about the expense that will come from people/families that will try and sue when they are robbed, attacked, molested, etc. by an imate released early? The expense of the courts having to retry them when the commit their next crime? I agree that these inmates should be rehabilited and taught a skill or trade if possible. However, more importantly these prisons/jails/correctional facilities need to be cleaned up from the inside first. There are too many instances where low paid employees at these places bring in drugs and other contraband and sell to the inmates. This is a terrible situation and is running rampant. It needs to be stopped.

I grew up in a town full of prison's here in Texas, and recently moved back as an adult. The inmates here used to work. They used to grow their own food, make their own clothes, make their own matresses, etc. That is before someonce (probably the ACLU) decided we were infringing on their rights. Now they don't have to do any of those things. No, now us tax payers pay for them to get an education if they so choose. Some have even used that education to turn around and sue the system that put them there. And us tax payers get to also pay for all the food, clothing and other items they used to be responsible for themselves. However, I do not think that letting them out early is the right thing to do either. I'm sure these states could look elsewhere for cost cutting ideas...like quit giving themselves raises, and cut out all the rest of the money they spend on their own personal agendas. Contined...

I agree as well. To me it all boils down to the fact that for most people who work you have to pass random drug tests to continue to work there and receive a paycheck. If a person is unable to work and is looking for assistance in the form of food stamps/WIC/unemployment (whether the compay he was let go from pays into his/her unemployment or not - thats extra money the company could put towards raises or a job for another person) they should also be held to the same standards. That only makes sense to me. IMHO the ACLU needs to tone it down a notch, they have gone way overboard on some issues.
