Big Journalism : Correcting the Progressive Spin on My Defense of the Marines

innov, This is what happens when you send the military overseas on nation building missions and use them as a "Meals on Wheels" program. If congress had followed the Constitution and declared war the mission would be clearly defined with victory as the goal without having to worry about what the political implications of our actions are towards the enemy. With PDS running rampant on the Bigs the elephant in the room will be ignored but..... Instead we will see nothing but finger pointing by both sides maneuvering for political position rather than admit they both had it wrong.Added this : Since so many here on the Bigs don't have a clue: the rules of engagement when you are on a nation building mission are completely different from when congress declares war pursuant to the Constitution. What Bush and Obama have done with the aid of congress amounts to nothing short of abusing our military people. Thus, the finger pointing as both parties try and leverage the failures of congress for political gain. But, that would require that the Bush and Obama pundits admit that Ron Paul was right.

Breitbart.tv : Ron Paul: Drug Laws Are Racist

Do a little research folks, you're coming off as bigots here. No wonder republicans struggle with the minority vote. Wisconsin legislative report: http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/29456354.h... *Key findings • Racial disparity in sentences increased as the offense severity decreased. In more serious Class C drug offenses, 79% of the blacks and 78% of the Hispanics received prison terms, compared with 62% of the whites. In less serious Class E drug offenses, 66% of Hispanics and 61% of blacks were imprisoned, compared with 30% of the whites sentenced.• Among non-drug offenses, Hispanic offenders were 1.7 times as likely as whites to receive a prison sentence, while blacks were 1.5 times as likely as whites to go to prison.• Among all offenses examined, compared with whites, black offenders were 1.7 times as likely to receive a prison sentence, while Hispanic offenders were almost twice as likely to go to prison.• Men were almost 3 times as likely as women to receive a prison sentence.
Big Government : Santorum Bets Big on TV in South Carolina

Walter, If anybody is owed an apology it's me. Please don't put words in my mouth and make accusations based on things I never said by jumping to conclusions which are wrong. If you think my observations of the publics perception of Santorum is wrong provide something to make your case rather than attacking me and changing the subject. I think you would be surprised how close our beliefs are based on your comment about the California Marriage Initiative. Our main disagreement seems to be I think Santorum is damaged goods and the wrong person to advance our republican views, and you don't. Fair opinions by both of us, yes? We will just have to agree to disagree. But I think we both agree that Obama must go.

Walter, Apologize for what, you not understanding or reading what I posted? I will apologize for assuming that you were aware of how Santorum is portrayed by the democrats and the liberal media. Flip the TV off Fox News once in a while, he lost in a land slide last time he ran. Santorum was booed off the stage in New Hampshire because of his stance on homosexuals, and is under fire for a comment about "black" people on "welfare." The point I made is the reality of how Santorum is portrayed by democrats, the media, and my opinion is he would be an albatross hung around the neck of the republican party. First post: "Not saying he is but that's the public perception of him and he does project it onto the republican party." Second post: "Did you miss the last sentence: "Not saying he is but that's the public perception of him and he does project it onto the republican party. Was merely pointing out how many of the voters in New Hampshire view Santorum and how they will make Santorum " the republican face of the racist, homophobic, and intolerant religious right " they are always accusing us of being. "

I also think the reason for the ad buys in South Carolina is that the evangelical vote is far more significant, not so much in New Hampshire. Good observation also Walter about the ad buys already being made.

Big Government : A Word on Santorum's 'Compassionate Conservative' Earmark Legacy

Just wait until Santorum's connection to the "K street Project" gets coverage. I'm surprised it hasn't yet guessing the MSM is holding back on it for awhile waiting for the right moment. Google "Santorum K Street Project" it will make earmarks look like small potatoes. From NewsMax "The blowback from the K Street Project contributed to Santorum's crushing 18-percentage-point defeat in his 2006 re-election bid. His image as a conservative firebrand who made polarizing comments about abortion, gays and single mothers played a role as well, as did Santorum's full-throated support of the war in Iraq." http://www.newsmax.com/InsideCover/santorum-lobby...

Registered republican, have been all my life. Did you miss the last sentence: "Not saying he is but that's the public perception of him and he does project it onto the republican party." Was merely pointing out how many of the voters in New Hampshire view Santorum and how they will make Santorum " the republican face of the racist, homophobic, and intolerant religious right " they are always accusing us of being. New Hampshire is not evangelical Iowa. Santorum is being booed quite often at the town hall meetings and his slip up about "blacks" and "welfare" hurt the cause. Point was I think Santorum's religious fanaticism will be used like a club and damage the republican party as a whole if he were to become the nominee.

For those interested in Santorum you can stay abreast of his efforts to get his delegates and alternates on the ballot in every district in Illinois at the link below. The deadline is today. Just a word of caution, Romney will contest every signature and delegate petition to the State Board of Elections. It's very common for candidates here who make a mad dash at the last minute to de disqualified. Illinois makes Virginia look easy. That is also how Obama won his first election. I doubt Santorum will qualify for every district but as long as the 5,000 statewide petitions are good I think any district he qualifies in is good. Not sure though. http://santorumillinois.wordpress.com/

Thanks for keeping it classy Walter. No question Paul's chances of winning are slim to none but he is on the ballot in every state and is viable in that sense. Santorum has yet to file and has about an hour to do so in Illinois. His Illinois campaign spokesman says they will file the 600 signatures per congressional district required by the deadline of 5pm today but are still collecting petitions. They will probably file but like Virginia using paid gatherers at the last minute can lead to invalid petitions. As a politically active Illinoisan I can guarantee you the Romney campaign will scour them with a fine toothed comb and contest every signature and petition to the State Board of Elections to keep him off the ballot. Contesting the petitions in Illinois is how Obama was first elected by having his opponent disqualified. It's the Illinois way and makes Virginia look like a cakewalk.

Got the point now. Apparently another sufferer of PDS or RDS replying to a comment about Santorum's electability who didn't want to make a thoughtful and relevant comment rather just wanted to change the subject and sling a little mud around.

Good point. Would also add that with his negative baggage of being viewed as the republican face of the racist, homophobic, and intolerant religious right it won't sell in New Hampshire anyway so why waste the money. Not saying he is but that's the public perception of him and he does project it onto the republican party.

You tell me then how he does it. Not on the ballot in Virginia, Missouri, and only made it on Ohio's because they extended the deadline, not on in Illinois but does have about 3 hours left to meet the filing deadline. No organization, no ground game, and out of time to build one. Please try and refrain from just name calling, if I'm wrong tell me why.

Santorum can't win (not on enough state ballots) so he must be running for V.P. or to force a brokered convention which will destroy the Republican Party. After Super Tuesday it will be a two man race between Romney and Paul anyway.

Big Government : Iowa: Campaign Ad Wars Turn Negative

Have they forgot that Santorum in 2004 threw the conservative, pro-life and pro-gun Pat Toomey under the bus and supported the liberal, pro-choice, and anti-gun Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania's Senate primary. Pro-life, pro-gun conservatives don't put party over principle and support pro-abortion anti-gun candidates like Arlen Specter. After winning because of Santorum's support Specter as chair of the Judiciary Committee started applying a litmus test to block pro-life judges from being appointed as federal judges. Santorum is a fraud who supported abortion and keeping pro-life judges off the federal bench by working to get Arlen Specter reelected.
