redsn0w can now do it without DFU mode. Extras->Even More->Deactivate when your iPhone is connected in Normal mode (otherwise the button says "Tickets")

Also, the new b2 link above should fix the problem all-around.

See the post I linked to in update #1 about how Apple is stopping the replay attack in general.

If re-installing 06.15 BB isn't enough, then I would go and use redsn0w's "Custom" button to create a NO_BB_* version of 5.0.1, then restore to that and re-jailbreak (don't try to re-downgrade, unless you feel like experimenting more).

Sorry you became an unwilling participant in debugging the occasional problem of the downgrade not taking :)

We'll work it out over this upcoming week. Don't worry though, we can inject whatever code we need into the 06.15 BB, so as long as you actually see that version number reported in Settings->General->About then you'll be fine.

Right...by saying "yes" to that question it'll still work with old bootrom (but not the other way around).

This is a 3GS? Are you telling redsn0w "yes" or "no" to the "does your phone have new bootrom question"? I bet you're saying "no"....can you try saying "yes"?

Try clicking redsn0w's "Extras->Even More->Clear cache" button and then doing the steps over.

You just need to point it at the IPSW first (see step #1 above)

Great, you're the first report back I've seen :)
