All Things Reform : A survey of US political power and attempts at reform

Of course, feel free to comment on the issues all of these posts offer for your consumption. When a post's title says, this is a "survey", it is an off-hand look at what other people are saying. I don't endorse the merits of these survey contents' research, opinion, suggestions or other.

A close example of your type of organization, though it was mostly with the Republicans, was the Christian Coalition. Even now, ol' Ralph Reed (not that old BTW) is building a new Christian right organization/ movement of similar ambition. Others have tried to emulate the CC, but haven't come close in political influence, in my opinion.

Rise of the Center : Republicans Know and Don't Care - Tax Cuts we Can't Cover a Direct Assault on Family Values

My Social Security Disability check is already *way* too small for me to be self-sufficient. I've heard that some retirees get only several hundred dollars a month! People that have had to turn down a normal life and take government checks are dying much faster than the Americans with normal conditions. Only when those with normal lives send substantial portions of their money to the gov. check receivers does that standard of living return. I tried to get a full-time job before resorting to SSDI, but no employer or small business lender wanted to take me aboard and make the necessary working condition adjustments and additional medical costs. Now I'm a full-time religious poet. My point is, even with a $13.7T national debt, 77% of Americans are living from paycheck to paycheck-- some special interests sure have made out with it, thanks to the Democratic and Republican Parties, and the American people are left with the bill.

Rise of the Center : Chris Christie Blemishes Pragmatic Image with Statement Doubting Climate Science

That is got to be one of the biggest mysteries of mankind, they so many Americans can deny what's right in front of them! How else can I put it? Seas are rising and they say so what. Truly amazing.

Rise of the Center : "Moderates: What is Our Brand?"

Perhaps you're right about Trump; I don't know enough about his qualifications. But, beware of the man who has been citizen-statesman most of his life. Perot has more love for this country than most of the scoundrels in congress or most of the past prez candidates. He has done a great deal of good, independently. Ego is part of the politician.

Yeah, Teddy needs to return to kick out the plutocrats again. I heard recently, that The Donald Trump is considering a run for prez. A Centrist of the wide swath, I guess, but should be considered seriously.

Rise of the Center : The Farce of Partisan Redistricting

'Nonpartisan' is the key word here. And, let's not limit non-partisanship in electoral politics to redistricting. Let's have nonpartisan Secretaries of State. Nonpartisan election officials down to the polling place. And nonpartisan electoral regulation agencies for the Federal Election Commission and each state.

Rise of the Center : Reagon's Budget Director Calls Out Dem & GOP Delusions over Spending & Taxation

Politicians are scared of we, the people, and our wanting more spending without any tax raises. The Dems. want to use the gov. to help solve our nation's problems (we need enough taxes), and the Repubs. want to limit what the gov. does to solve our nation's problems (we want less taxation of the rich and big business.) Our solution includes three major hits: raise taxes on the wealthy and draw back our world-wide military and simplify our tax system with much less loopholes. Just my two cents...

I've always considered the definition of 'moderate' to include 'a moderating force towards extremist ideology.' 'Pragmatic' is mutually exclusive of 'moderate.' You can be pragmatic and be extreme in your ideology. For example, if the president wanted to indefinitely close diplomatic channels with OPEC because he wants to convert the USA to green energy, he could do it in a very pragmatic, business-like manner, however extremist the politics seems to be. Moderates try not to be ideological by analyzing the issue and solution, based on its merits for the good of the country (or district.)

Thanks for finally saying: People before corporations. Plain and simple. Why should we, the people bail out and supplement corporations' bottom lines? Business is business, let them take care of themselves. And if they refuse to be good, regulate them. And let's please return to competitive bidding in the government's procurement system! Enough free corporate reign!

Companies, both domestic and multi-national, have infiltrated our national legislative institution with no remorse. We know it's the "people's house" and they do too; the only way they gain access is by the power of money-- unethical access. We need Nader/ Gonzalez to return integrity to our legislative and electoral processes.

Bush's sole focus on the big money of corporations as campaign donors in his runs for president are now paying off, for the corporations. His unending giveaways to multi-national corporations during his terms have been like a raiding of our taxpayer-funded treasury. Has the Iraq War been part and parcel of this? Well, those "Pioneer" campaign donors seem to be very successful thus far...
