redsn0w can now do it without DFU mode. Extras->Even More->Deactivate when your iPhone is connected in Normal mode (otherwise the button says "Tickets")

Also, the new b2 link above should fix the problem all-around.

If re-installing 06.15 BB isn't enough, then I would go and use redsn0w's "Custom" button to create a NO_BB_* version of 5.0.1, then restore to that and re-jailbreak (don't try to re-downgrade, unless you feel like experimenting more).

Sorry you became an unwilling participant in debugging the occasional problem of the downgrade not taking :) We'll work it out over this upcoming week. Don't worry though, we can inject whatever code we need into the 06.15 BB, so as long as you actually see that version number reported in Settings->General->About then you'll be fine.

Right...by saying "yes" to that question it'll still work with old bootrom (but not the other way around).

This is a 3GS? Are you telling redsn0w "yes" or "no" to the "does your phone have new bootrom question"? I bet you're saying "no"....can you try saying "yes"?

You just need to point it at the IPSW first (see step #1 above)

If 06.15.00 is already on it and it works (you can see that version in Settings->General->About), then it's compatible with it (no need to worry about bricking it) In step 1, you just need to point it at the stock IPSW for whatever firmware you're at. If you have a new-bootrom 3GS it can auto-detect that for you (but I didn't put that in step #1 because it would cause confusion).

If you haven't already saved your ticket (via redsn0w's backup button), please do that now. That ticket is very important, and can't be reproduced should anything else fail. After you've done that... If you update (NOT restore) your iPhone4 to 5.1.1 via iTunes (as opposed to OTA), your ticket should stay in place. Once the upgrade is complete, you should see a signal even without applying the jailbreak. After the update (NOT restore! update is very different than restore), if you want to jailbreak again, just use redsn0w as normal.

You can downgrade from 5.1.1 to 5.1 on the iPad3, in case that ever becomes useful.

Hi...that should now be fixed in 0.9.11b4. (Issues like that are why we advised in the main post to stay on the older redsn0w for A4 and earlier devices, but that should no longer be necessary as of b4).

You still need iTunes installed because redsn0w is using more and more of the dynamic library functions it provides.
