Thebutlerdidit

She is claiming she gave money to two charities and didn't get the letter stating the amount to turn in for her taxes. And she was physically unable to call them and ask them to send another letter? BSBSBSBSBS! I gave to 11 separate charities last year. I file taxes for 3 separate self owned businesses. I have been audited 4 times in 12 yrs. No problems. The tax code does suck, but this is not an excuse to f up your taxes. I don't care if it was a "honest" mistake or not, Sebilius is a baby killing beeyotch who will destroy our health care system. Ditch her!!!! Call your reps and tell them to NOT support her nomination.

Would you be so forgiving if this was a republican administration? Would the press be so forgiving? I don't think so.

GavInTucson

Well, our tax code is a 40,000+ page document; that's pretty hard for me to wrap my head around. But despite that, I'm not giving into the notion that these were, somehow, honest mistakes make by these people. These people usually have accountants doing their taxes for them. But what's the one thing in common with all these cases? Unreported income. One doesn't need an army of accountants to know what income is.

rkjames

Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems possible that our tax system is so complicated that she or her accountant may have made honest (yes, I know she's a Democrat) errors. I try very hard to be accurate on my taxes, but I'm not sure they would stand up under close scrutiny. While Daschle and Geithner seemed to have taken the approach of just ignoring taxes they didn't want to pay, maybe Sibelius really wasn't trying to cheat. But, if members of the administration and Congress are going to have to keep making excuses for their nominees, maybe they could also admit that our tax laws and rules need overhauling to make them more understandable. Hell, I'm amazed that a Democrat actually had 49 charitable contributions!
