My first election in my new state of residence. The first time in 16 years I'll cast a vote that actually may matter. I can't wait.

The supposedly-discredited Laffer Curve strikes again.

I'm a little surprised to hear this being pushed in very-red Alabama, especially under the "higher cigarette taxes save children's lives" rhetoric. Because children pay for their own cigarettes or something I guess. They might actually get away with it, though, much as they do with high liquor taxes, because most of their population (excepting the Mobile area) lives far from any state lines.

I know what you mean. I'm sure there's a Grand Plan(TM) at work that is beyond the comprehension of us lowly plebes, but right now it sure looks like the GOP is committing Suicide By Debate.

Stat that I'm making up but is actually very possibly true: My Little Pony pulls down better "male 18-34" ratings than Olby.

This evaluation might change in the longer-term, especially if Obamacare is upheld by the Supremes, but as things stand, I would say Eric Holder has done more damage to this country than Obama himself. If the GOP doesn't at least try to make Holder a campaign issue this year they don't deserve to win.

He's kind of said it already. He'll dismiss the job creation potential of the project as insignificant, and then go on about how our "true" interests must involve less oil, not more.

Remember this is the the guy that snarked about bankrupting coal miners and got away with it. Don't think he'll be embarrassed to slam this one using any means necessary.

The Senate bill says Obama can reject the pipeline only if he decides building it would not be in the national interest.

It might as well say, he can only reject it if he really wants to.

I have actually had to listen to a pastor explain how that parable was "code language" that "really" meant Jesus opposed the actions of the vineyard owner. I don't think anything has ever done more than that sermon, to damage my trust in organized religion.
