Oh, I'm tuned in. Looking forward to more.

Awesome. I'd love to know more, especially as we're looking to formulate a model for theological/missional/ecclesiological education here in the Syracuse area. And by "we" I mean a very small handful of us who see the desperate need for this type of thing. Keep up the great work.

Great post, JR. It makes sense as we continue to push deeper and broader into this whole missional conversation. Trying to rethink the gospel and its implications is something we've been working on in our community. You are absolutely right when you wonder about people being ready for this conversation. Keep up all the good work.

JR, great meeting you in February at the National Gathering. Do you know when there will be any Learning Communities coming up to the Northeast? Living in central NY makes it somewhat difficult to get to the one at Pawley's Island, even if it is free. Any info would be appreciated.

As a partaker of last year's Aggelos training, it will be well worth your time. Just to reiterate what many, many people love about Ecclesia, the focus isn't merely on information or a particular way to plant churches. Rather, the focus is on relationships made and continued along with vital info from multiple people from multiple Christian streams resulting in a variety of approaches. All in all, it is a great time getting to know new friends and seeing God's hand moving in his kingdom through his church. Highly recommended.

Since I've been interim pastoring here in the great white tundra of central NY, I've been battling the "I really enjoyed your sermon." or "Great sermon." It's obviously nice and all, but it seems to play into the performance side of things, even in a conservative Anglican church. I try and push back a little by saying, "We'll see what happens." This is somewhat of a reduced and paraphrased version of Marva Dawn's story in Reaching Out Without Dumbing Down where the preacher gets the same praise from the congregation. He says something similar in order to push them into action, not merely attending a show where the audience simply watches.
I know in my neck of the woods this is a much needed difference. So besides expository preaching, what would say is the best way to preach? (I won't be attending the National Gathering, but would love to hear more.)

Great post Ben. I saw Willard when he came to my seminary, Northeastern, here in upstate NY. I recall him talking about the gospel of sin management instead of discipleship. His ideas combined with NT Wright's Surprised by Hope were the turning points in my faith. And that's after growing up as a pastor's kid, 13 years of Christian school, and 4 years of Bible college. Like Doug, I wondered where this had been my whole life.
It's posts like this that make me grateful for like-minded people and the reminder that they are out there. This is why having an understanding and embodying of the entire story of God centers on becoming the people of God through discipleship.
