I keep wondering when Olby is going to do one of his "where are all the black people" speeches, condemning the OWSers for surrounding themselves with only white people. (Of course, I'm being sarcastic.)

Great piece Dana. They really are sad little excuses for men, aren't they? They can't even call out rape, because they are neck deep in partisan politics. How many times did Olby rail against Tea Partiers for not calling out perceived racism at events, and he IGNORES rape and other violent crimes?

Do you think he wonders why no one watches him anymore?

With that kind of "commentary" and this kind of wit, I can't believe he even has his basement show. https://twitter.com/#!/KeithOlbermann/status/1693...

that is definitely a mechanism used by rescue workers, and soldiers, but not the term i was searching for, i don't think... something like disassociative disorder or something or other, but my brain can't remember what it is called.

heck, maybe it doesn't have a name, but dehumanizing the enemy to cope is common:

Weren't many on the Left cheering the capture, torture and killing of Gaddafi? Weren't many of those same Left whining because Obama wasn't getting his deserved credit for said killing?

Giving Obama credit for killing Gaddafi would be giving him credit for desecration/sodomy of Gaddafi, no?

Yet, they are outraged that dead Taliban were pee'd on. Something that is done in war since the beginning of war, and is a coping mechanism. Any opportunity to hate on the troops, it seems.

I can't remember what it's called - but soldiers, rescue workers, etc. dehumanize their victims in order to deal with the horrors they are engaged in. Firefighters will make jokes at airplane crash sites. Soldiers dehumanize their enemy in order to deal with the idea of killing them (the sniper who knocked out Ventura was discussing this the other day).

They are trained to kill, and they deal with it in different ways. How can people expect them to do their (horrific) jobs, and not disassociate from reality a bit?

Would these men do this on the street in New York? War is hell. We don't even know what the situation was leading up to this gun fight.

I agree with this tweet: The American media shouldn't be acting as Public Relations Department for the Taliban.

Many of these soldiers could be dealing with PTSD, for all we know. They are young men, and under orders, just killed a bunch of people. They have to dehumanize them, for their own sanity. And if peeing on murderous Talibani helps them deal, so they can come home and heal, then pee away.

I saw a tweet earlier today, said something like: Progressives can crap on cop cars, pee on the American flag, but get outraged when Soldiers pee on dead Taliban...

CARNEY: I understand that there is a ritual in Washington that, you know, somebody says something and you link the associations and then everybody who has an association with him or her is somehow — has to avow or disavow it. The president wasn’t there — I mean, he wasn’t on the stage. He didn’t speak for another 20 minutes. He didn’t hear it. I really don’t have any comment beyond that, Jake.

CARNEY: The — Mr. Hoffa speaks for himself. He speaks for the labor movement — AFL-CIO. The president speaks for himself.

Funny how that works, eh?
