Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments. Nike, not being a FIFA sponsor/partner managed throughout the years to be inovative in order to link the brand to the event....and they have been successful so far. Whats impresses me is the timeframe they took to establish themselves as a football brand.
I always take the year 1994 as a point of reference. Post World Cup in the US, Nike signed Brazil (previously contracted by Umbro) and attacked football. 16 years later, they achieved their objectives. On top of that, as they HAD to be creative on a marketing point of view, they came up with more and more amazing marketing activations. To a certain extend, NOT being a World Cup sponsor was a "benefit" to them.

Now with their sustainability campaign (all Nike World Cup jerseys are made of 8 recycled plastic bottles), Nike is positioning itself as THE football brand who takes care of the environment.....which is a hot topic nowadays.

Simple, yet powerful.
