David, very interesting and intriguing cautions. I am interested in your book, and the issues you discuss after reading your description of it. Any possibility I could get a galley of your book for preview at my blog, Confessions of a Small-Church Pastor? Or if not on the blog, just for opening a conversation with you and others? I think you're on to something no one else has addressed. Most of the talk/discussion/books I've read are about "fixing" evangelicalism, which I agree is deeply flawed, if not downright in error. My background is Southern Baptist, but I like anabaptist approaches especially regarding peace and justice. Isn't the church a contrast community (Lofink) and if so, isn't it inherently "an inhospitable political presence in the world?" Of course, being authentically a contrast and being annoying are two different things, and since about 1975 or so, evangelicalism has become increasingly narrow and annoying. But, that's just my opinion. I'm interested in learning more about what you're on to. Thanks, Chuck
