I agree with Segura, I see it as a very 'both' type situation where they both have their benefits and drawbacks, and both have a place!

I read this a few years ago and really enjoyed the ethical discussion side of the story as well. There is a sequel out now as well - will you read it too? I didn't enjoy it quite as much unfortunately!

I am white and not a fan of Austen, but loved reading your thoughts here. I think what you say is true that parents and teachers play a huge role in what we read. Also though, while I think teachers should challenge students of color to read Austen, I think they should at the same time be challenging white kids to read authors of color too!
