And Greenconsciousness's posts remind us why it's so vital to debunk the truly hateful parts of Daly's legacy.

Well it's been several years, I could be totally wrong, my memory is not infallible. Sadly. :(

My understanding is that they should have been speaking something other than Mandarin and he caught a lot of flack for it. It's been a long while since I read up on any of this so I don't recall which dialect was put forth as more appropriate. Off the top of my head I want to say Cantonese? I do remember he referenced this in Dollhouse tho, where Topher made the same mistake and says to Dewitt "If this is about why they're speaking Mandarin instead of _______..."

ETA: I think there were also complaints because they would mix in words in other dialects willy nilly and probably about the accent issue you point out too.

In some ways I wish I could be surprised. But I know something of San Diego and California in general and the UC system too, and, no...I'm not. I don't know if any will even try very hard to justify these events, they will probably just sweep them under a rug.

Hey lissy, thanks for letting me know that I am not shouting into the dark!

I don't think there are any easy answers on this stuff. Some people have been writing more, especially about when they've see "blunt answers" turn into straight out abuse and how those dynamics work, as well. That's been especially helpful because while I've been bullied it was pretty straight forward abuse, the more manipulative kind I have little experience with and don't know that I would necessarily spot.

So I am still grappling with this stuff, and I think probably will be for quite a long time.

It's so true, put anything new in the shower and after a couple weeks the curiosity gets the best of just about every man or boy. They just have to open stuff up and try it. In my case, hubs likes what I use about half the time. He can be quite odd with what he chooses to like too. Like he tends to stay away from my scrubs for some reason but scented body washes or other soaps he tends to get all over.

I guess everyone is just curious about the various ways they can wash their bodies and smell good afterwards.

Deep fried stuff is delicious and it's not as unhealthy as it was in the past, all depends on the oil you use what SORT of fat you'll be taking in. :)

I'd love to deep fry a turkey because one of the things deep frying does is create that crust which seals in the juices in a meat. So a deep fried turkey, in theory since I haven't had one before, should be ridiculously juicy and have that nice crunchy crust of the skin.

Also deep frying has lots of interesting applications, such as deep frying spinach, which turns the leaves into chip-like things that crumble at a touch and melt in your mouth, which is just a great topping for steaks or pork chops or pastas. And while I like roasted potatoes, sometimes I just want fries...

I totally would have paid you to take that fryer off your hands. ;)

Peanut oil is another pretty healthy option and it tastes really good.

Nope.

I can be a safe haven. I mean, I've met some good and thoughtful people here.

But mostly, I have to admit, it doesn't feel terribly safe to me either.
