mike goldsworthy : Brainstorming Meetings Don't Work

Probably why it's called brain"storming". It's kind of counterintuitive to expect an organized and neatly packaged idea out of a stream-of-consciousness, chaotic tossing around of ideas, isn't it?

The Real Evan McElrath : the enemy of the best is....

Your question "Or does He nudge you towards a certain direction?" hits on an interesting assumption I often make when talking about "God's Will". The question assumes that His will is not where I currently am, but somewhere else. That God's Will requires me to move towards something, that there is a destination I am trying to reach. The issue I see with this kind of thinking is that I can become obsessed with figuring out what direction I should be moving in and miss out on the things I'm already doing that are God's Will. Which I think is an aspect of what the Nooma video hints at.

The Real Evan McElrath : emotional posting

And given the track record of the last few winners, it might be better not to win. There were some pretty good artists on the show this year, but looking at the other finalists besides Haley, you can guess what the major viewing demographic is. The results of the vote on the show are probably as much, if not more, related to demographics as it is to the quality of the performances.

Not so much about the book, more about the controversy it sparked before it was even released: - Is the "Rob Bell is a Universalist" talk overblown?

You should start a blog, along the lines of the 'stuff christians like' blog, but posting all the catchy christian sayings that people use. That'd be an entertaining read.

As a follow up...how do you get from where you are now to this vision? Not so much on how you go from being a casual to full-time longshoreman, 'cause you have very little impact on when the economy at the port picks back up, but more so on the missions side. What kind of missional work do you envision doing?

I love how nobody over the age of 35 has any idea who Arcade Fire is. Great band from Canadia, ay! You should check out Mumford & Sons. Don't know if you saw their performance at the Grammy's, but they should've won best new artist.

more than anything else I've read in the last couple years, that "living a better story" mantra has stuck with me...simple to comprehend, less simple to put into practice. Good stuff, Evan.

mike goldsworthy : Top 9 iPhone Apps of 2009

Mint was a godsend because I hated having to enter data into Quicken. So that's definitely one of my top apps. Among my other top apps: - Pano: takes great panoramic pictures with the iPhone - Gas Cubby: great way to track maintenance and gas fill-ups for automobiles - MLB At Bat: Baseball is one of the most new media-savvy sports & I love that I can watch/hear games for free - U-Verse TV: Can access my AT&T U-Verse DVR to manage recorded shows (includes setting recordings)

Evan McElrath Dot Com : Intro Music

I think I'd go with Beethoven's 5th. It's not what you'd expect from a closer, so it'd catch people by surprise, and it's got a little ominous sound to it.

this has nothing to do with soul pancake...which is a pretty interesting concept by the way. no, this is about arrested development. I just stumbled on the arrested development blog, and they posted a video recently called "sorry we canceled arrested development". it is pretty awesome, and while you're there, you should subscribe to the blog if you haven't already. http://www.arresteddevelopmentblog.com/2009/04/so...
