This is a brand new, exclusive performance for The Highway Girl. I don't think Rosi has recorded or released this song yet. Isn't she wonderful?

HI Celia. I'm an artist who has been played on KCRW. I'm running for John Simson's seat at SoundExchange. I've been looking into their crooked methods for awhile now. I sat down with both John Simson and Cary Sherman earlier this year. I've been a SX member since 2006. Is there an email address I can contact you at? http://www.bit.ly/samanthamurphy

TechCrunch : Sonicbids Acquires ArtistData To Help Musicians Get More Exposure On The Web

This is a great acquisition for Sonicbids. I hope they paid Brenden well! I was skeptical of Sonicbids for years and even told Panos so when we spoke on a panel together in 2005. However, we now partner with Sonicbids for our TV show The Highway Girl http://www.thehighwaygirl.com and we've found some very talented artists through them. I do wish their backend was easier to navigate however.

TechCrunch : Why Media Companies Should Become More Like Merchants

Content/media companies have no choice but to involve some product in their venture. Content is just too readily available now for ad revenue to be considered a business model. I believe we will get back to a strong ad revenue once the Internet gains strength in the eyes of advertisers, but in the meantime selling a physical product is a must. http://www.thehighwaygirl.com

Feld Thoughts : Where Do My Music Rights Start and Stop?

To say the rights holders fuck everything up isn't actually correct. It's oftentimes a case of the laws surrounding the Performance Rights Organization for the particular region. For example, in Germany if I own all of my own songs and I'm the rights holder, but I'm signed to GEMA (their PRO), I don't have the right to waive my royalties in exchange for promotion. If I'm signed to GEMA and you play my music, you MUST pay them royalties on my behalf regardless of whether I require you to or not. Each country has a different set of laws surrounding mechanical licenses and royalties, requiring music companies like Pandora to enter into lengthy negotiations surrounding blanket licenses. I believe it's particularly prevalent in European countries. On top of the PRO's, you've got the NMPA not to mention the major labels, who all have their own agendas. Any one of these organizations can establish roadblocks for companies like Pandora, despite the fact that the rights holders may very well want their music played in Argentina.

Feld Thoughts : Ok Entrepreneurs, Time to Step Up

The current economic state has actually given me a reason to be positive. It's definitely separating the men from the boys. Those who are in business for all the wrong reasons are falling away, leaving industries (music in particular) lean and filled mainly with people who truly want to change things for the better. Exercise, shower, breakfast, kick ass. Not always in that order. : )

I'm in love with my Moleskin. Especially the soft cover. It's just not the same to write a song or a poem on a computer. I can't get my mind in that dreamy space that's required.

I was talking to Terry Gold about this very thing today. He suggested that as your company grows, the highs and lows tend to happen simultaneous thereby making them balance out a bit more. You guys rock!
