I really think you will change your mind. Once you have rooted, it is hard to go back. In my opinion rooting and using a stable ROM such as ION is the best of both worlds. You have the apps on your sd card and a very stable ROM.

I can't get away from Hero ROM now even though sometimes it is slow. Can't give up the features.
