Church Techy : Tech Call to Arms

Exactly that. I don't know your background or anything but I trust you'll join in and if nothing else spread the word? Just in my town alone I know of several churches that use tech but have no tech head in their small congregation yet they use computers, etc. My FIL& MIL are a classic example - just the other day the FIL asked "what do people do that don't have a Stuart" - made me smile, but the MIL's answer was spot on ... they have to pay and whilst I don't envisage everyone donating their time for free I do expect that they will cut a favourable deal with the end church thus freeing up resources for missions, etc.

Hi and thanks for the comment - I've left that intact but have removed the onwards link as that was just advertising and whilst I'm not against adverts I like to know what they are first.

I'd like for it to be more active than just a database, though in its early days that is probably pretty much what it will be. I'd like to see a newsletter, blog posts, forum for the techs, etc - have you any specific ideas or thoughts yourself? As at the moment the vision has been cast and now it is about refining, defining and activating it.

I'm with you Chris. I, like Jim Walton of ChurchTechMatters, see such value in the use of QR codes especially within the church but my day to day paid work role also makes me acutely aware of the inherent dangers within 'obfuscated code'.

The Beta Version : House Church Challenges - The Sickness

I get that I do - but in reality the outcome shouldn't be any different. The point I was trying to make was that nobody else feels bad about missing a day here and there so as an HC the attendees should understand there will be times when the host can't host.

Church Techy : Service

Spot on Greg. We had a similar sort of experience to your brother with our eldest when we visited EuroDisney. My eldest, if you didn't know, is diagnosed as profoundly deaf. Anyway, Disney's T&Cs weren't 100% clear where their line was drawn in terms of reduced entry for a disabilty. I pre-empted all that by contacting them and then double checking their reply. Then when we visited we took print outs of the email chain but still staff on the door refused to acknowledge the disability... a very embarrased half hour later we paid full price but then I went after Disney big time on my return to the UK. It took them 6mths to issue a refund and apology but I got it. So like your lesson with the children - sometimes one needs to keep at it until the result goes your way.

Church Techy : Online File Sync

Understood. I didn't include it above but I use and pay for Mozy (though thinking of changing) because I can assign certain folders to be monitored and auto backed up. The reason for not including it was that they didn't have an anywhere, anytime sync product. They sort of do now though still in beta called Mozy Stash and so far it works real nice. But they don't do a mobile version yet though one can pick ones own encryption key.

Thank you Keith. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. And I understand your problem ... I use Google RSS reader to keep up and find a lot of times I end up going to favoured blogs. In fact it currently says I have over 1K unread posts - I can see me clicking 'mark all as read' soon.

The Beta Version : Too Old For Youth Ministry

Love it - you're too old when you don't connect anymore. In the youth group I used to attend we had to change its name fro 18-30's because i didn't fit with our youngest being 15 and our oldest 82 at the time

I say approach it as if you were just a regular congregant. If you were sick you wouldn't go. So why should being a house church make that any different? I know the rare occasions it happens I enjoy the 'away' time from church and I suspect most of your members would likely feel teh same - so why not have a Sunday where you just get me time.

The Beta Version : Halfway to Making a Difference

Congrats Greg - I'm going to start on my weight loss regime in the New Year as I realise I may have my fitness returning due to the martial arts but I could certainly do with upping my game. And the only way to do that would be by dropping weight.

panoptic : Memorisation

Well I do that already. I said I do that already! OK, corny jokes aside, repetition is the only way I know but it just takes so darn long. At the moment I need to learn the 10 articles of faith for my martial art. I'm hot on 1 to 3. 4 & 5 are sort of there, 6, 7 & 8 just aren't coming and then 9 & 10 are locked in as well. I have them printed and laminated and whenever I get my camera out, which is daily (despite lack of pictures it does still appear daily) the card also comes out. It'll get there in the end but I'd love to hear of any alternatives to repetition.

panoptic : Debates

OK, I accept that but I don't agree. I don't know of anywhere in the Bible that defines the length of a day. So why do we believe the 7 days of creation is 7 x 24hrs - I guess you'll realise I don't believe that. There is too much hard fact to show the earth is older than a strict Biblical timeline - so something has to give. The best I know that describes a day as time is 2 Peter 3:8 which implies a day is as a thousand years and the other way round. Also, science has shown that time is not a constant and that it is in fact speeding up. But hey, I'm no theologian, that's my brother in law and his childrens perogative!

Thanks for the comment Greg. I can't say that I am a creationist. Yes, I believe in creation. But as literally depicted in the Bible then no I can't. As an allegorical way in which the world formed then yes I can. That said, is the Biblical description of a day 24 hours?

The Beta Version : My Pal and I Need Your Ideas

Good man Greg. I find these apps don't help me because I fast lose interest in them - I guess that's a mental barrier I need to overcome myself. However I started my Tang Soo Do 2yrs back and became a gym rat 2 or 3 times a week at the same time I have found that the whilst I have altered shape a little bit the weight is still there. I want to tell myself it's all muscle but it isn't... I know. Still good on you and I shall certainly have a look.
