Haha, well said. It's interesting that the film can be so heavy and still feel pretty empty. The flippant nature of the (mass) violence plays a big part I think...even Independence Day had more regard for human life. For me that's probably what makes it feel most unlike a Superman film -- the supes I grew up with would go to unreasonable lengths to try and ensure humans wouldn't be harmed, whereas this one levels half of a city without second thought.

It's worth revisiting for sure. There's a lot to like here, it's just one of those films where the parts are better than the whole.

I really wanted to love True Grit, but it was just missing something for me. It's still pretty great, it just didn't wow me like say No Country For Old Men or Fargo.
