when you get paid $45/hour to turn a wrench for 20 years, you're sure to get a bit lazy on the job. maybe if GM valued performance more than tenure, the product quality would improve. there are plenty of people who would willingly do the job well for half of what they're paying their current workforce. that would actually solve two of their problems...
