Interesting debate folks, I can only comment from Canada, as I don't live in the US... Here, RIDE checks (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) are legal, and common especially around the holidays such as Xmas. Police will set-up and blockade a highway or main road and stop each vehicle passing through to speak to each driver. Refusing to take the roadside test or the blood test is an offence, a criminal offence, Ordinarily, even here in Canada, a Police Officer has to have Reasonable and Probable Grounds to stop a car - you were speeding, you failed to signal, etc etc.
Ride Checks were challenged all the way to the supreme court here and barely passed the bar.
but here at least, you have no RIGHT to drive, is it considered a privelege that can be revoked, otherwise how can a licence be suspended etc?
and in that manner, you MUST supply the police with your licence, insurance, ownership when stopped while operating a motor vehicle. No debate.
and if you handed that card to a cop here, I am sure he would stare at you blankly and then say
licence and registration please.
