god, i hope he doesn't have much to do with another aliens movie. i've forgotten some of the rumors behind this.. is he supposedly one of the top choices to direct? i hope its not another 'terminator salvation / aliens vs predator' type reboot. it would just be refreshing to see a movie like this taken seriously again. i just want a good sci-fi / horror film with practical effects.. its the only way this movie could be done properly.

hunter, i really enjoy these writeups you've been doing. i was also totally disappointed by the ending. like you pointed out, its almost as if the ending was supposed to disappoint. i don't see any other reason to hype something so dramatic to the plot, and then essentially dismiss any logical outcome with a bogus event that will hardly effect the show. its one thing to have a twist, but its another to pull some bullshit like this in the last 30 seconds. i think the explanation or justification of the plane crash is halfass, being an 'act of god', or walt's actions indirectly effecting others. i get it, but it's not very interesting. thats something i would expect to see on a show like lost, because it is retarded. this show has always been generally believable, and this just didnt work. i think it would have played off alright if they never created such anticipation for the ending.. if they never had the previews of the destruction at walt's house.. if they just had the plane crash, it would still have been a bit much, but it would be ok... i just cant understand why they purposely set out to disappoint the viewer. sure its a 'twist' nobody was expecting, but it didn't make the show better at all.

AWESOME. terminator, star trek. transformers.. they are meant to be 'fun'. but they dont even come close to drag me to hell. straight up, no movie this summer will be more entertaining then this was. its got legitimate thrills and laughs and so many gross out moments. sam raimi is hilarious. i cant remember an audience ever having this much fun or leaving the theater so excited.

not so sure about the 2nd or 3rd clips.. but i love the first one. the handheld wide shots are perfect.. it actually feels like a real show being put on in the middle of this town. i also like how its not some dude standing center stage shouting 'step right up!!! bla bla'.. it opens with him chillin on the side of the stage playing a flute like this is just another day at work. sooo good. i still dont have a clue what the plot is, but i'm excited for it.

what a piece of shit. it was tolerable but just barely. mcg is not a good director. the script was awful. christian bale was nothing special, one of his worst roles ever. pointless characters (common, submarine boss, little girl, bryce dallas howard....) lots of cheesy moments, lots of mediocre at best action scenes we've already seen time and time again. the special effects were halfway decent but 90% of them are in the trailer. i have zero interest in a sequel. anyone who thinks this was a good movie is a fucking clown.

this shatner thing could be insight to how using sabotage was suggested, but it's not justification. using the song made me cringe. it would be one thing if the song was just on his radio, but the music took over the film and the editing. using that song at this point 'works' only in the way the movie does - random, pointless, and relying on being 'fun' in lack of story. its just so completely forced.. i think it was just a stupid decision in the same vein of harrison ford getting into a refrigerator.

some of the backgrounds of these have such terrible cg, i honestly am so distracted it completely takes me out of it. i was looking at some of these shots thinking about how fake it looks before i actually consider what the shot is about. a shot of a guy looking out into the wasteland which used to be a city.. that is some serious shit, but it just looks fake and creates absolutely no emotion. that 2nd to last shot posted looks like the first photoshop project of a 12 year old half blind retard.

eh. i was mixed on this but i just lost a lot of interest. its got pretty good effects, but the plot looks boring as all hell. everything just seems so forced. the dialogue. the action. the amount of effects. i think mcg's just trying to do too much at once. it just doesn't seem interesting at all.

I disagree with Brenden. Eli roth has certainly been influential to 'today's horror' but that is not necessarily a good thing. His scripts and dialogue and direction are piss poor. Saying they are the best horror films of the past ten years doesnt say much, but it's still a bit of an honor those films don't deserve. You say "I think the Hostel pictures are smart, angry, politically motivated films that address some very key ideas and social images of these times." Sorry, but i personally think that is a bunch of bullshit, and to prove that point you would have to analyze hostel to an extent deeper then the thought eli roth put into it. I understand the movie is (somewhat intentionally) hypocritical. It is about turning violence into entertainment. But i would argue that eli roth is so much more excited about the shock value violence then actually critiquing the culture. Thats why the movie does not work, is not smart, and is not even a halfway decent horror film.

im sorry, but what is it again that is supposedly so revolutionary about this film again? i dont quite understand. we've seen 3d, we've seen cgi. somehow the cgi looks 'really really good'? i know they have new technology to see some cgi in real time when they shoot, but how does it affect the final product? if anyone knows more about the technical / production side of the film i'd appreciate it.
