Scrollin' On Dubs : The spreadsheet browser extension I would happily pay $50 for

Nige, thx. My site was down the past few days as a change in hosting providers happened to coincide with me transferring my domain so I couldn't update DNS for a week... ugh.. anyways your plugin seems to be exactly what I was asking for. I will check it out. Kudos for writing it!

Paul, beautiful! thanks for recommending this. tried it and works like a charm (even pasting into Numbers on a Mac which usually works far less than Excel for some reason). Would still love to see an extension created that allowed simple spreadsheet ops inline directly in the browser but this is definitely a big step up from the current situation. Thank you for sharing.

Amber, thanks. Will check her out. I've gotten into Adelle lately- she's pretty amazing and worth a listen if you haven't heard her album yet.

Jamie, I actually had Ben Harper on the original list and he's amazing. I updated with newer, undiscovered artists since I originally wrote this and bumped him but you're right, he definitely belongs on here. Maybe it's time to expand to the "100 acoustic artists you need to know..."

Dennis, I left off Dylan b/c I just assume everyone knows him as the godfather of acoustic (like leaving Einstein out when talking about great scientists). But thanks for giving him mention- he's the greatest.

Scrollin' On Dubs : Disruption, practicality & emotional neglect (or why the Walkman really won)

Ed, obviously headphones existed prior to portable music players. No argument from me that your comment is accurate in theory but in practice the Walkman was the first time en masse younger people could experience music this way (stereo's were hundreds while Walkman's were about $70). The point of my post is that _practical_ reasons are typically the ones that get cited in case studies after the fact but the true driving factors for adoption at the time are more sensory/emotional in nature. As you pointed out w/ the iPhone, it wasn't so much that practicality of being able to access one's music collection from anywhere that was compelling as much as it was cool to be able to choose from any of your tunes while out on a run.

Dan, cool thanks for the tip. I'll check out the excel importer. I run on a Mac so unfortunately I don't have IE and loading up a VM just for this would make it cumbersome. I still think that even w/ tools that bridge getting the data into a desktop spreadsheet program easier, there's an opportunity/need for an extension that just lets you perform basic spreadsheet ops in the browser. Thx for the info tho!

Scrollin' On Dubs : Eric Ries, are you joking?

BTW Eric, the source of my confusion was this: I didn't even realize a digital edition was promised in the AppSumo bundle. I had bought a pre-ordered version of your book from your site around SXSW time and assumed I had checked the digital option and you had since decided to revoke that and insist people receive physical book. Anyways. All good. I feel like an ass now for making this post now that I understand what happened. peace.

Eric, not asking for a refund for the Appsumo bundle at all... That was an amazing value and I have no issue with taking a hardcopy now that I understand the mixup. This makes more sense now and I would say just explain the situation in the email next time rather than hitting people w/ an ultimatum on something out of the blue w/o any explanation of what happened. looking forward to reading the book

Scrollin' On Dubs : Lessons learned from 30 days of going carrierless

Good point. If you want to be able to receive calls on your mobile you do need the Skype Online Number which costs $18 every 3mos. I'm on their pay-per-minute plan right now which is $.023/min. They have a $3/mo all-u-can-eat plan for calling anywhere in the US & Canada. I also paid a $20 one-time fee to port my AT&T # to Google and then another $20 to keep my previous Google Voice # as an alternate. Lastly, I had to pay an early termination fee of $70 to AT&T for ending my contract 3mos early.

Jim, surprisingly iPhone battery life has not been noticeably affected by running Skype in the background. I even have an oldschool iPhone - i'm assuming the newer ones will do even better.

Scrollin' On Dubs : Time-saving Adwords hack when dealing with large keyword sets

Patrice- it's definitely annoying but better than the alternative. You just need to sort the keywords by status in the online tool, find the "bookends" of the ones that have fallen below the first page bid and do "check all" > pause for each page of terms. You may have to page through 20 pgs to get all the ones you need and it's admittedly tedious but it's the fastest workaround I've found for dealing w/ this situation and once you update your list then fewer and fewer fall off the first page bid over time so it does get easier to manage. -sean
