Texas Startup Blog : Quit your job today?

I always saw this as being less about literally quitting your job and more about taking full control of your time, money and career. That means being fully aware and owning the following: *Your strengths - what you do well and how you're an asset to your company or department *Your weaknesses - what you do not do well. where you need to grow, where you are a liability to your company or department *Your trajectory - what you want to do? Do you want to grow in your position? How much time do you anticipate being in your role? It's no surprise that most of these questions frequently show up in job interviews. If you can answer them well it is clear that you're not just in your job for the paycheck.

I wonder if a lot of this communication couldn't happen via the upcoming website comments? I prefer the organic nature of the events allowing folks to come and go without their being too much pressure.

I'm sorry that happened Brad. Networking can be tough stuff and sometimes it takes a bit of time to get warm to the venue. Please come out next time and ask Jennifer or Teresa at the registration table to come find me.

For a lot of people - the primary reason they start their own business is so they can get out from underneath their day job (i.e. working for someone else). I wonder if the numbers work better long term for these guys if they were to all take 50% pay cuts?

Texas Startup Blog : Success without failure is impossible. . .

Yeah - there is a bigger picture involved in the failure. We have to let the companies fail but who will be expected to fill that financial vacuum? Perhaps the government can help fill (or prevent) that fallout? Regardless, the solution has to involve more than what amounts to throwing good money after bad. But do we want the government to have it's hand in telling GM how to become profitable? What a nightmare. Maybe it's time to create an industry of private companies whose sole purpose is facilitating the dissolution of failing companies.

Good call. The other option is to setup facebook profiles that can customize who can see what. You'll take 15 minutes to setup profiles that won't have access to your photos instead of having a 15 minute conversation with someone you've decided to not "friend".
