So much time has passed that hard core Star Wars fans can finally be objective about the prequels. In my opinion, Phantom Menace actually holds up very well as a film. It's not fantastic, but it's good. The problem is it is a pretty good film with some absolute cringe-worthy lines of dialogue and it most likely isn't the film fans wanted after such a long period after ROTJ, but it holds up well and I watch it again every year or so. Attack of the Clones is much better overall but it has scenes and dialogue that make Phantom Menace look like Oscar material. Sith is better than both overall, but the truly bad moments kind of make you forget. You take all three prequels together, grit your teeth when necessary and you have one very good Star Wars movie.
