DMA Email Marketing Council Blog : Email's growth is greater than Social Media in 2010

Tracking the volume is only one important metric for marketers executing today.. tracking percentages is potentially an important indicator for tomorrow. Obviously in the case of social media, that potential is rapidly being fulfilled. With all the hype surrounding social media though, sometimes it is useful to be reminded where the volume is :)

DMA Email Marketing Council Blog : Why email and social media will live together

I think we will see both - it doesn't seem to be a priority for social networks today to build out their email-like offerings. It is only a matter of time though.

Feld Thoughts : An Alternative For The Mac Address Book App?

hmm.. intense debate failed to load for some reason after I logged in, losing my original reply but here was the basics.. less crashing and faster I cant help you with.. though with about 800 contacts mine doesnt crash and isn't slow compared to outlook at all suggesting there might be some other underlying issue. For flexibility on fields - you can edit the card template and add fields for skype (i also added twitter) and that adds fields for all contacts. I ended up sticking with apple address book and managed all my contacts through google apps - I sync that on my iphone and also with my address book so having my exchange account empty is no big deal for me. I still miss outlook contacts though. Maybe with Office 2011..

razorshine by riaz kanani : push email on an iPhone - come on gmail ;)

You would think so - one thing I am not expecting yet is something similar to Google Apps - allowing me to use my own domain name but using gmail as the interface. I think I would move back to Yahoo if that came out - Gmail is pretty stagnant right now and Yahoo's email platform looks the best featured. All that assumes the speed of the interface is quick though <grins>

razorshine by riaz kanani : what if your IP was portable?

true - the reverse lookup would not work.. that still requires the ability to take the IP address with you which leaves us back with changing the way the internet works at its core. The only way around that would be to have some way of broadcasting your dynamic dns identity rather than your IP address.

Think I am contradicting myself in this post somewhat - I prefer the ability to message back into the orginal service, and yet I am saying that users would not have to sign up for the various services.

Does that mean friendfeed is better for mainstream users?

I think I end up with the life stream aggregator being integrates at the OS or browser level (ie not a website) and all these services being able to be signed into using openID (which would allow the commenting.

razorshine by riaz kanani : TV service providers - the future

Have you taken a look at Cachelogic? They cache popular content for ISPs at the edge of their network to help reduce those running costs. For me this is a better place to cache content than on the edge of content delivery networks like Akamai.

Of course I have no idea how well that can scale - but its a first step towards reducing the costs of delivering content using an IP based network.
