Mark Evans : Facebook vs. Twitter Comparisons are a Waste of Time

I'ts definitely an apples vs. oranges comparison and I wish people in the tech field would leave it alone. It's not even an interesting discussion. They are just too different.

Glen Campbell : it's SOCIAL media, not social MEDIA

Nice description. I propose another: Take this same person who enjoys corresponding with 100's of people by writing letters. Everyday, the mailman brings a stack of replies from her friends around the world. She smiles and looks forward to reading them while sipping her afternoon tea. Eventually, the mail system gets an upgrade. Now, every letter sent to her in reply is delivered instantly to her home. It seems as if there is a constant flow of mail, letter after letter, falling through the slot in her front door. She can't seem to focus on any one letter as she becomes distracted by the new arrivals. The quantity of letters she receives has not changed, only the method by which they are delivered. Her perception is what is different. Before, she couldn't see what was happening in the background, the massive amounts of letters that were flowing through the mail system, destined for her address. Now that she can, she is overwhelmed. There is no real reason she has to change her habits, though. Just ignore the flow and focus on the item at hand. Leave that stack of mail by the door for later. Almost like she has a pause button or something.

Daily Thoughts from life : It's about We the People America.

Great post! I was just having a discussion on Twitter with someone who felt Obama wasn't doing a good job. I didn't agree with them as I don't feel we have enough information yet, but that's neither here nor there. The point is I told them I support the POTUS, mostly because of the US part. They had no clue what I meant and that's just sad.

Thought Remixer : Possible Beyoncé Dissed by Sarah Silverman?

Damn, she hit the nail on the head right there. I don't think she's talking about Beyonce directly, but Bey is definitely included in the group Silverman is referring to. Probably the same chicks that think they're I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T (do you know what that mean?), and the ones that think Ne-Yo and Jamie Fox are singing about them.

SheenOnline : Automation Defeats the Purpose of Social Media

Not really any way to know if someone has auto-followed you, but I think it's just more of an issue to auto-follow others. Although, as I get more and more followers, I'm starting to wonder if I might change my mind on the subject. going through 50 to 100 Twitter profiles becomes tiresome :)

A View from the Isle : Twitter me this-if auto DMs are such a pain, why do so many people use them?

I immediately unfollow anyone who sends me an automated DM of any kind that amounts to a pitch or call to action. As you say, there are some cases that get a pass, but not your average person. I think, if one were to do some research on Twitter marketing, one might find some pretty "big" names and some self-proclaimed experts that advocate these auto-DM's. Most of the people doing the advocating are from a different marketing background (network/affiliate marketing, list-building) who have jumped on the social media bandwagon in recent years.

Always appreciate your comments. It's definitely an ego thing and it's something that really gets under my skin. When you begin to focus on numbers and metrics and stats, you forget to actually provide value. Those numbers represent people and those people didn't come just to be counted.

The web browser does not determine what content you view inside of it in the same way that your television does not dictate what shows you can watch. As I said in the post, if you feel we are not represented online, represent us. It's easy. Nobody is stopping you. We don't need a web browser to boost our search rankings, that will just cause us to forget about the real work required to create a presence on the internet and we continue the same cycle. Also, you have to keep in mind that New Media, meaning the stuff going on mostly online and inside your web browser is NOT the same as TV, newspapers and all the other Old media. Online? I have a voice and the power to get that voice heard. Nobody has to know that I'm here in order to find me. I would hope that Blackbird is looking at all the feedback being provided online, but I wonder if they're even monitoring their brand online.

Actually, I wanted to have both, but I heard from a good source (@jessestay) that the plugin doesn't access the WP database safely and I don't love Facebook enough to risk corrupting my entire blog.

More lock-in. I don't find that very cool....not cool at all. On another note, Flock makes perfect sense to use for some people. It adds value to your interactions with a lot of social services, not just bookmarks to those services. It just doesn't fit for me because of the random stuff I use :)

No. This is not the same thing. This is not doing what everyone else does just because they're doing it. This is using the same tools others have to keep up and so that you have the same advantages. You don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Even if that knife was made by a black-owned or black-targeted business, you will still lose.

My pleasure. I run dual boot Linux/XP here, so I figured this was as good a time as any to go ahead and reboot. Even if people don't want to make their own filter, it's very easy to add Live Bookmarks, which seems to be what powers the news ticker in Blackbird. If I ever happen to reboot, I'll post the actual feed here. Thanks for coming through :)
