While Austin is the closest thing to a hip enclave in Texas, it's also the state capitol...and the constituents of most of the legislators are some of the most reactionary baboons in the Western hemisphere. Austin is always weird, but it most often takes the form of something like the right wing evangelical textbook board that would shield Texas youth from knowing about liberals, dinosaurs and the theory that the flat Earth is not the center of the universe
