I think Scott was 'massaged' in that direction by Patrick Cockburn, who consistently insisted on Scott's show that the US had no other option but to leave.

Yeah, replace the US with an 'honest' broker and the futility and hopelessness dissipate instantly. Maybe the Israelis and Palestinians can put an ad on Craigslist for one.

Antiwar.com Blog : Misunderstanding the Afghan War (After a Decade!)

I don't get it? I don't see the irony. England was a colonialist country that tried to hold Afghanistan against her will. The US is bringer of freedom, and only those terrorists want us out.

Remember when Obama gave an unprecedented speech in Cairo? What an amazing grouping of words that was! Completely initiated the uprisings across the Middle East. What an excellent point you make Scott about the US being the face of violence and dictatorship!

Loved this guy! Informed AND impassioned! I still don't understand the need to apologize for Obama, couldn't someone make the same case for W. being under the pressure of the intelligence agencies and Pentagon? The man is responsible and I think it would be a good start if he could made an example of. Anyway, I really hope you have this guy back on.

Antiwar.com Blog : The Hug Lady

WOW!!! I found this passage to be a perfect refutation of the "I'm a veteran, hippie, so shut your mouth because you wouldn't be able to open your mouth without my buddies dying face down in the mud": "If I could wind back the calendar decades, knowing what I know now, I would not only NEVER have enlisted, but would have actively discouraged everyone I knew and met from doing so. Why? Because the only time any nation EVER has any reason to honor "veterans" -- or even have warriors in the first place-- is when they have stood and fought ON THEIR OWN SOIL to repel foreign invasion. Mercenaries who fight an empire's battles on foreign soil belonging to lightly-armed, impoverished others who have done that empire no harm and who are doing nothing but justifiably defending their homeland against alien invaders deserve nothing but our contempt."

Very interesting question! I have no problem with the soldiers getting hugs. I don't see how treating them like outcasts benefits anyone, although I see the hypocrisy in what she says.

I would have loved to hear how Rothschild would have handled a question on the FBI rounding up the antiwar activists. I'm sure he would have found a way to blame it on Bush or Newt Gingrich or the Tea Party. "Yeah, but just imagine if McCain was president! They would have been tortured instead of just arrested."

Scott, it Bush that pushed through NORTHCOM!!! Yeah, Clinton may have got the ball rolling but c'mon, it was all Bush!!! BUSH!!! GEORGE W. BUSH!!!! BUSH IS EVIL!!! Luckily we have Obama who would never use the evil laws put onto the books during the reign of Bush-Cheney. Remember when they moved the White House to Mordor for 8 years. I'm so glad Obama moved it back to Eden.

Antiwar Radio with Scott Horton and Charles Goyette : Gareth Porter

Part 2 The plan was to go into Iraq, blow shit up and kick out Saddam. The problem was and always has been that there never was an idea of what to do once that occurred. They kind of shocked and awed themselves. The people at the head of the US government have been searching for a way out for years now and a combination of the surge domestically and the fact that they were forced by the Iraqis to eat a big heaping pile of humble pie within Iraq means that they are leaving for good. The Iraqis have decided they can't stay and politically within Iraq the US has absolutely zero options and militarily they have no where else to turn. They will leave in an orderly fashion very shortly, perhaps try to rile something up covertly using contractors but none of that amount to shit. It's over!

Part 1 I always enjoy and learn from Mr. Porter's interviews but I feel like he feels a need to assign some sort of authority over events that really wasn't there. To say that what has happened in Iraq over the last few years is almost exactly what the Sadrists, Maliki and Iran wanted is to ignore the essential unmanageability of events and people involved in the build up to the current political situation. I also think that he assigns too much of an idea of a cohesive goal or set of goals of the US government that have been subverted by the Iraqis but that also will not allow them to pack up and leave.

Antiwar Radio with Scott Horton and Charles Goyette : Thomas Nash

I understand Mr. Nash's desire to build goodwill for his organization, but I think it just sounds weird to commend the US government for helping out in the piddly way they have. They're responsible for dropping 200 million cluster bombs on a country that never attacked us! We, as the US, need to do whatever it takes to make that shit right! Remember when ol' Jimmy the peanut farmer said the destruction was mutual so it's okay? What was our destruction exactly? Protests? Soldiers killed in the line duty? That's the equivalent of some monster MMA fighter going to his neighbors house and beating the shit out of him, setting the house on fire and putting poison in all the food and then saying that he had no need to apologize or make things right because he singed his eyebrows with the flamethrower and when he got home his wife nagged him for being out too late.
