N2Growth Blog : Discipline & Leadership

Excellent! Thanks for the list--I can see some of my weaker disciplines, oral communication and distraction. I'm a writer, but I need to work on talking to people without being wishy-washy (people perceive me as being too nice). And, I allow myself to be distracted too easily. Again, you have given me a lot to think about--I appreciate your posts.

Michael Hyatt Blog : Five Strategies for Building New Habits

I only started flossing within the last ten years or so. My problem was I didn't know how to do it--once my hygienist showed me how to do it, I took off. Now, I floss, brush, and use Listerine twice a day. My gums have improved immensely. I have discovered that I am a visual learner, so I need to read directions or see someone demonstrate what I'm learning. Hearing instructions just doesn't do it for me. That's why I wish I either had a tutor or a simple manual of everything I need to know to be tech-savvy.

Daniel Decker : 14 Platform Building Tips for Authors

Wow, Daniel, you are a jewel! You've given so much good information that it's going to take me some time to process it. I have my blog and I'm building an audience--Twitter seeems to be the main source of my new readers, so I'm trying to use tweets strategically. My biggest issues are the interviews and the speeches. In my small city, there are not that many opportunities and I think I may be a little too well-known here to be considered beyond being a mother of seven and a high school English teacher. As I am turning my posts into a manuscript (lots of revision) and am preparing my book proposal, I am also thinking about finding some sort of training in speaking. Thanks, Daniel, for writing this series of posts--I appreciate it more than maybe you can imagine.

I saw Andy Andrews for the first time at the Women of Faith Conference in Columbus, Ohio this spring. I love his energy. His teaching on perspectives gave me a new perspective on my relationship with one of my daughters. She and I are getting along much better. Andy is an excellent writer and I'd love to win a copy of The Heart Menders.

Ron Edmondson : An Interview about My Leadership Style

Ron, you and I have similar personalities. My principal just told me I'm a big picture person--I don't like some details (like lesson plans); however, I'm quite detail-oriented in my writing. I also love change and I try to be attuned to what is working and what is not. As a teacher, my top priority is that students be engaged, so I've been known to change strategies midstream if what I'm doing isn't working. I try to keep my students on their toes.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to go to Catalyst in October because I'll be in school, Atlanta is far away, and I can't take the time off that I'd need to attend.
Ron Edmondson : 5 Ways to Influence Those Who Lead You...Leading Up!

Respect is paramount in our relationships with our leaders. I've been in circumstances when I haven't agreed with a leader's decisions, but I've respected them. That's where God comes in--when I want to say something not nice, I start talking to Him and asking for help in keeping quiet. I'm constantly reminding myself that God will work everything out for everyone's good and that I need to keep my mouth closed. Having God to turn to is a huge help in troubling situations.

Yes, I have faced a similar situation, except my boss wasn't incompetent. In this case, we looked at things from two different perspectives, and I was directly impacted by the decisions made. I didn't complain or gossip, but prayed a lot. I believe God works things out for everyone's good, so this circumstance gave me a chance to put my faith to the test.

Big planet. Small world. : It is not necessary to sin

By the way, concerning God's sovereignty, He is sovereign in that no one rules over him at all. However, He limited His sovereignty in His creations--the angelic realm and our world--when He created choice. Deuteronomy 30:15-20 states that God has given us a clearly defined choice. Once we understand that choice, once we understand what Christ accomplished on the cross, and once we understand the power of God's absolute love, we will take our places as the sons of God and deal with the evil in our world. Finally, I have my share of emotions (sometimes more than my share), but I try to make choices based on clear thinking. 2 of 2

I don't see how rational equates with ritualistic litany--from my stand point, rational means I've taken the time to think through what I believe and test its reasonableness. Take, for example, the matter of evil. Last weekend, I heard a pastor state that God causes suffering. I think he was looking at all the horrible circumstances in the world in the context of God being sovereign. I don't know if he's ever read James 1:13-17 or not; James cautions us to not err because every good and perfect gift comes from God and he is not variable. In other words, He doesn't give a good gift and then turn around and give an evil gift. God is good and His love is absolute. If we begin to think through what we believe in that context, we may well find our beliefs being challenged and we might learn some new concepts. So, rather than rationality being ritualistic and being a litany (I don't participate in litanies), it is an exercise of thinking. And, in today's world, we really need to think clearly. 1 of 2

And His love is greater than any evil in this world. When we fully understand the power of God's absolute love (as expressed through Christ) and when we manifest that love to our world, good will overcome evil.

Jeff, I would go a step further--in order to make right decisions, we need to have clarity in our thinking. Or, in other words, are our thinking and decisions rational and reasonable? So many of us make decisions based on emotions or circumstances (which can change from one moment to the next). This is one reason why we should "work" to come beyond religion into a personal relationship with God who is our Father. In Isaiah 1:18, He says, "Come now, and let us reason together..." By coming to God and reasoning with Him, we can find stability in a world of turmoil, and we can learn how to consistently make the right decisions.

Lindsey Nobles : Reckless Worship, Trisha Davis

God has never not loved us. Sometimes I think we look a little too much at ourselves and at others. God's love is absolute and is not based on anything we do. His desire is that we have life by "cleaving" to Him (Deuteronomy 30:20). Let's abandon our hearts to Him and let everything else fall in place.
Ron Edmondson : Monday’s Preparation Brings Friday’s Success

I just went through a semester at school where I didn't have time to prepare curriculum for a class when the students covered everything I had planned in a relatively short time. They were the only year-around class (rather than semester) in that course and they got things done fast. I really floundered because I was not prepared and I believed I didn't have "time" to think things through. Fortunately for me, they eliminated that section, so I don't have to worry about it this year. You are so right--thank you for reminding me to take the time to really prepare.

Michael Hyatt Blog : You Can’t Build a Reputation on What You Are Going to Do

Michael, you raise an excellent point. Over the years, I have wanted to write a book and have it published, so I wrote book proposal after book proposal and was rejected every single time. Last summer, after attending the Write to Publish conference and after connecting with you here on your blog, I realized what I was asking was to have people trust a person whom no one knew anything about. Not exactly a good proposition in today's world. So, I began taking steps to become at least a little bit known. With the help of your posts and comments, I began writing my book on my blog and began building online relationships. Now, I am four posts away from finishing my book and am brainstorming my proposal. While finding an agent and a publisher is still along shot in today's world, I am in a much better position than I was a year ago. Here's hoping that my steps, taken one at a time, will make my "air castle" a reality.
