About the phrase "powerful new information technology tools might be critical to the advancement of the profession", I agree with you that the word critic might be too strong to define the role of the new IT tools that are being available. Nevertheless in this point I was thinking particularly in advanced semantic tools, to embed a bit more of intelligence in the actual systems, which I think will represent a big jump for the profession (practitioners as well as final users) and definitely an space to be watching in the future.
