Big Hollywood : Oscar Favorite 'The Artist' a Silent Antidote to Modern Cynicism

If you like "The Artist", be sure to check out two other French films, "OSS 117: Lost in Rio" and "OSS 117, Cairo, Nest of Spies". Both featuring the same star, Jean Dujardin, and both directed by the same director. They're spoofs on the James Bond 007 genre. Avail on Netflix.

Big Journalism : 'Brian Williams Is Stupid Because He Is Dumb' Begs The Question

I used to get a bit upset every time I heard the phrase misused, and even posted a correction or two, but I've given up. It seems like the phrase has no official been redefined to mean "that raises the question." This isn't the first time that a major news reader has used the phrase in this context, and I've even seem it in print too many times to note. So I have given up. I suppose it's not all that bad, language is a living thing, meanings and definitions change all the time.

Breitbart.com : Cain wanted scrutiny _ then he got it

I enjoy hearing Mr. Cain speak and I'm looking forward to reviewing expanded details on his positions. Yes, he has very little experience in politics, but he has plenty of real world experience, certainly more than the other contenders with the possible exception of Romney. However unlike Romney Cain was not born with a silver spoon hanging out of his mouth. It' clear the GOP powers that be are not behind him, but if the people want him bad enough, he'll get the nomination. I would LOVE to see Cain go toe to toe with Obama - he would wipe the floor with BHO - and then wipe the lobby, the sidewalk, the street, and every square inch leading to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Don't get me wrong, we are very early in the race, if it comes to the point where Cain looks like he can't deliver, I'll gladly back any of the other GOP candidates, but right now, today, Cain does look like he could do the job and deliver the win.

Big Journalism : Herman Cain's Communications Director Resigns

Campaigns are dynamic, chaotic affairs. Personalities clash, pressures wear people down, egos get bruised, things change. This is very early in the Cain campaign, if this happens a year from now it might be significant. But right now we have no solid idea of what caused this split, but at this point whatever it was probably isn't a cause for concern. Next...

Big Hollywood : EXCLUSIVE: Questions Arise Surrounding Michael Moore Attack Claims</sp

Had these incidents actually occurred does any one believe for a second that MM would not have exploited them to the max? He \\would have been jumping up and down (well, he would have been jiggling up and down) grabbing every second of airtime available to draw attention to himself and his evil enemies! He's a publicity hound of the highest order - he probably prays for attacks like these to keep his mug on TV, papers and the web! Clearly, despite his pleas, attack never happen - so instead he pretends that they're real. Just like he pretends the lies in his "documentaries" are real.

Big Hollywood : 'Let's Roll': Ten Years Later, the Message of 'Flight 93' Still Resonates

There's no doubt that many passengers on United 93 were brave heroes in every sense of the word. But we're not hearing the full story as revealed on the flight recorder cockpit audio records. The flight deck crew played a critical role in the event of that day. Hopefully someday they'll get the proper recognition due them also.

Big Hollywood : Bristol Palin Meets Jay Leno (and Don Rickles!)

Because it's about context. Chris Rock can say a lot of things about black culture, and it's funny, and he gets away with it, because he's Chris Rock and Black. Don Rickles can insult almost anything and anyone because he's Don Rickles - and that's his thing. Had someone else made the same remarks, odds are that it would have been motivated by dislike for Ms.Palin and out of place in this setting. Do you really not get that?

It's not some "scam" - it's capitalism. And one of the beauties of the system is that if you don't feel like being "scammed" you can cancel Netflix, get rid of your car, live off Top Ramen, wear Goodwill clothing, not buy toothpaste, never vacation, eliminate anything fun, and nobody is going to stop or punish you for those decisions. As for the conspiracy of less quality on broadcast TV.. I think we're in a golden age of quality TV, Breaking Bad, Empire Boardwalk - plenty of good stuff out there.

There's a potentially huge difference in cost to Netflix between DVDs and streaming. Once they buy a dvd, at whatever price they can find, they can legally ship it out as many times as they want. However that's not the case with streaming content. For that they need o negotiate with the studios who can impose whatever fees and conditions they can get away with.

Big Government : Saturday Open Thread: One Nation Edition

One of their gurus, Michael Moore, has listed the steps they need to take to avoid the pending slaughter. Today he added this nugget: "UPDATE [Friday, October 1st, 8:52 PM]: The crime syndicate continues to crumble. Today we learned that Bank of America is joining JPMorgan Chase and GMAC in suspending foreclosures in 23 states after a BoA executive admitted she signed up to 8,000 documents -- in one month -- without even reading them." He's using the fact that the banks haven't read these documents to support his notion that lenders are a criminal syndicate. Okay - so what do we call an administration and congress who have admitted that they haven't read the most massive restructuring of the health care sector in the history of this country? "Criminal Syndicate" has a nice ring to it.

Big Government : O'Keefe Owes His Supporters an Explanation

Nobody's asking to have O'Keefe incarcerated or burned at the stake. But an appeal for an explanation is warranted here. Breitbart is shining the light not only on bad government, but on corruption, deceit, duplicity, and turning a blind eye to the sins of your cronies just because it's politically expedient. In this case it appears that someone who's he's vouched for is, at best, playing the fool. If Breitbart doesn't call O'keefe on this then he loses the right to criticize similar behavior from our opponents. This is taking the highroad, this is what open and honest looks like. This is holding people accountable for their actions. This is how all media, all government, should behave.

Big Government : No Accepted Medical Use? Three Perspectives on Medical Cannabis

"You cannot use it and then work. Sorry, it isn't happening." Must disagree with this. I worked in live or live to tape TV for several decades, usually the directors seat. A few years back I worked with a tape operator, at that time he was working on a live show that had upwards of 15 different cameras, this was a big name show that is recognized as being one of the top shows, it was fed live to some markets and on tape delay to others. Each camera had its own "iso" tape machine, there was 2 live line machines and a couple of preview machines - there were also a couple of playback machines. In all there were probably 28 - 30 tape machines, each had to have 2 or 3 tape changes during the production, the tape delay machines are particularly critical and difficult to juggle. Sometimes there would be 2 of these complete productions back to back. Yet the tape op who would coordinate all this - live mind you - would start smoking when he woke up and not stop until he went to bed. All the producers knew it, the director knew it, anyone who walked within 10 yards of the remote truck knew it. The deal was he could toke his lungs out as long as the smoke didn't waft to the front of the truck where the control room was. I worked with him on other shows where we "only" had 5 cameras, about 10 machines in all. For the 2 seasons I worked with him I never knew him to make one mistake in what was probably the most intense and detail oriented job in the building. Likewise I've worked with a couple of technical directors (they guy who actually pushes the buttons that switch the camera, tapes etc.) who were pretty much stoned all the time, and they were the best TD I ever worked with. No way could I, or would I, have done my job under the influence, but these guys did it all the time.

There may be a silver lining here... I think the that slam "Racist" is being tossed around so much that it may lose all meaning and its sting. Clearly it doesn't mean much at all any more - after all I agree with most tea party views, and I'm Eurasian, my wife is black, the loves of my life - my niece and nephews are all mixed race. But yet "wise" people insist I'm a racist - I guess they're right.
