94 weeks ago @ Race Relations Project - South Park...off the h... · 0 replies · +1 points

I think that with episodes like South Park, family guy and the Simpsons they look for ways to push button without actually going there. It’s all for shock value it goes there without actually making the viewer that pissed. I seen that south park episode and pretty much what is was the “creators” of family guy where going to show the prophet Mohammad and the Muslims were upset with the family guy creators and threaten to do something to the creators I can’t exactly remember. But pretty much the kids from south park went to stop them. But they ended up censoring the image of Mohammad and everyone was happy. I thought the portrayal of the show was funny because south park for the most part picks on a lot of things in society for shock value and I think its kind of funny how things are portrayed. I think that it goes with the sticks and stones theory and you take it however you want to because regardless how you look at south park picks at everything within our society and doesn’t really hold back. And I guess it depends on what type of person you are to really take the message. I cant seem to help but think even thought amidst of the crude humor and the pokes and fun stuff that there really is an underlying message that is possibly involved in this show because there’s a method to madness whether you look at it or not. I have to say I don’t feel disrespected by the show and what goes on in I think its actually funny because they’re pretty much going off on what society is so sensitive about and taking it and putting it on the for front. I think the people who actually take offense to it are the people that are really sensitive who just consistently see a problem with everything in the world. I think they play of the role of free speech really well because they say what they want all the time and as a result whether or not u felt offended by it or you thought it was funny. You saw it and you listened and you got something out of it is what I think they’re ultimate goal is at the end of the say because some of the material that they bring is sometimes what I think of about society. I think that we kind of all need to take just a little insight of what they’re saying because regardless of the comical aspects of it they dod have a point underlying somewhere. You just have to be bright enough to actually pay attention and get the point.

To be honest I didn’t even eat the first piece of chocolate because I didn’t know exactly where we were going with it. When I see the chocolate I figured we would be learning about the slavery that goes in to chocolate so I didn’t even simply because I kind of figured where this lecture would be going and I didn’t necessarily think It would be fair to eat something when you already know that the lesson that you are going into is going to be about it. I thought it was really deep how he talked about how they were tricked into becoming slaves and what makes the situation sadder in that horrible abuse that they’re subjected to. It’s just horrible and disgusting to see people subject to unfair cruelty the fact that when you look at their bodies and you see the scars that are on them. It’s just really shameful. I think we should all should just take note that it’s not just them. We must think of the other slaves. For example the clothes we wear. Did you stop to think about the shirt you were putting on? On the jeans that you were about to wear? Or the sneakers you were about to put on? Even the material things like cell phones. I look at these things being hard to avoid and not support because we base our life off these things but one thing I think we need to do is simply be educated on what goes on so we are more conscious of the situation and not just completely blind to what’s going on. I think that this is a serious matter that needs to be addressed across the world because this is a problem that we just cannot avoid. Just like other issues I think that this modern day slavery is a big problem because we abolished slavery along time ago and the fact that it’s still going on is very shameful. There were also many parts of the film that I found very disturbing in the video that Sam showed us in class. I thought it was very disturbing as to how they were treated and how they are handled they are treated like animal thrown to the ground abused and just poorly mistreated they were beaten down to the very white flesh on their bodies. They also risk so much infection with they’re open wounds and cut. So after really watching I began to say to my self I was glad that I didn’t eat the first piece because how could I bring myself to grips to eat the second piece because its not fair. Its all wrong when you look at it.

I think that getting rid a welfare wouldn’t really make the problem cease I think that would really only make the problem worse. Even though in the world where we do have some people who just choose not to work but just rather sit there and collect government checks. I think that’s where the problem comes in that why the world is is debt so they say but you also have to be considerate of the fact that even though that there maybe some people who cheat the system there are actually people who do work and who are on welfare as well. And that by taking away these benefits would honestly make living conditions worst for some people. There are actually honest people out there who work and are on welfare and that the welfare benefits that they receive are really helpful especially when the job that they are working is not really paying enough. I think that that we would just end up creating more homeless problems because it think the welfare benefits actually help people and not only that you have some college students who are on welfare. I use to think welfare was bad back when I was really young but now that I’ve grown up ive seen that welfare is not bad as people makes it to be because in the economy that we live in its really messed up out here. Times are really rough and now its hard for people to afford things right now. And I think that these assisting benefits actually help people I mean you do have some people who just rather not work and take government checks but what about the honest families who are actually struggling out there to make a living and the only way there getting by is by the welfare assistance. I think by taking this away we risk by brining down the people who really need help the most. I feel like the government would still make profits even if the stop welfare and the world would still be in debt as well. I think that the world has a lot of problems now and that we’re wasting unescary money on things I think that the government needs to start making more jobs available so that it makes it able for people to work. This is the issue why welfare is like the way it is. Because there are no jobs for people to grasp therefore no one can make any money and families cant support their children so by getting rid of this welfare we risk putting many families in jeporday so I think that we should keep it because its beneficial to those who actually need it.

I think in that class it went completely left field with this topic I thought it was kind of stupid because it had absolutely nothing to do with race relations what so ever. But I feel as though at the age we are now it shouldn’t be a surprise at all the females menstruate its part of the life cycle and there is no way of changing it. As a male I have some female friends and I’ll admit it does kind of creep me out sometimes to the point where I have to walk away. But at the same token its something that we have to deal with I guess its no different from people who sweat under their arm pits. It happens and there’s nothing you can really do it is what it is and people just have to accept it and get over it. I feel like in high school we’ve talked about this same issue about women and when there on their cycle and what happens. I think it’s good because if women didn’t menstruate then we wouldn’t be here. I think it comes with a level of maturity you know when people hear stories like this it makes it very uneasy to be around. I think the way Sam cam off in class he should have really just thought about what he said before he went and said it because it triggered some people to leave and I think that comes from the shock value that he has. I guess it’s not as shocking to most people until it’s brought up and asked. But at the same token with this blog post I don’t necessarily feel like a 450 word blog post is really relevant because I feel like where all at the age where we should understand how a women’s body works. So I don’t think anyone should feel offended I think it’s a time and a place to talk about certain things and I felt like at that point in time Sams class wasn’t the appropriate time. Furthermore I thought it was pretty funny how he talked about how if her were a female and he was “bleeding” and how he would react I thought that was kind of funny how he poked fun at the situation because it looked as though the room got really uneasy after he made his mentions. But all in all I think that for people to not feel so uncomfortable with the situation I think it’s the level of maturity you have to have because it’s a normal thing I just think the time you talk about it has to be appropriate and not just throw out there for kicks.

I don’t think that the campus USCD is racist but at the same time I think they’re a campus who lacks education and needs to be taught. When we discussed this topic in my discussion group about the letter that was made and sent out to the campus by the fraternity I was outraged. I found it very offending that they people would even attend such foolishness. I was even more outraged at the characteristic traits that they were portraying black people as. The thing that just ticked me off more was the simple fact that if anyone where to see this letter straight off the back if you have common sense you honestly would know that’s its wrong and that its racists and many ways. The fact that you tell people to come out and paint their faces black and eat watermelon those things were negative for a reason. I feel as though as a culture the African American community has come along way and it’s a slap in the face to us as a people when we are still pigeon-holed as the people who dress up in jerseys and drink kool –aid and talk “ghetto” Its just down right wrong. I also think the other person who was Identified as the other black student who said it was okay to have the party is just a ignorant and un-educated as the people who wrote the letter as well. As far as the finding of the noose that just goes to show that just some people are just plain ignorant especially since it was an minority student whether they were black or white it was still wrong and I think that situations like that should be taken care of. As far as the campus in whole I think they need to be taught the values of respect. Just because one thing to you maybe considered a joke to others they could find it massively offensive and I know for a fact that if a frat at Penn state would have done something like this they would have gotten their asses kicked. I think that students should rally and put a end to this foolishness of what is being taken place because its just not fair I feel as though and blind person could see that the circumstances of that party were wrong and that it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. I think that people should have enough respect for others to know what’s right and what’s wrong. It wasn’t like they were making fun of a specific person they were insulting an entire race of people. I personally believe it was wrong on so many levels and that we need to put an end to this ignorance or else it will still continue its 2010 we shouldn’t have to keep bringing race issues up.

(continued)I always believe that be careful of what you do to others and how you treat them because you never know if that same person that you disrespected of shouted hate terms to could be the same person that turns around and saves your life. You never know when you may need somebody and that’s why I feel like we shouldn’t just sit there and let these issuses continue to keep going on. I think we as human race should be more kinder and considerate and caring and just put love back into the world because honestly we living in ending times and you can honestly feel the change in everything that’s going on. I just believe that just restoring the humanity and just simply looking out for one another will help the world.

(Continued) The crazy things is we don’t worry about it until it happens to us to when it hits close to home. I feel like that shouldn’t have to happen watching that video I felt some sense of happiness when those people stuck up for that girl because its not right how people are treated differently because of their race or religion. I feel like we as a people don’t really care about one another that there is no sense of love in this world. We as a people need to look out for one another and lend a helping hand and stand up to ignorance and just be careful of the things we say to people.

(continued) I heard a song by Michael Jackson and he says this one particular line like “theres nothing that cant be done if we raise our voice as one” I felt like that was so true because I belive if we stand up to ignorance and oppression that we can over come these things. We as a human race seem to have lost a sense of humanitarianism and that we are so consumed in things that if it has nothing to do with us then when shouldn’t worry about it.

(Continued) I often question to why the world is the way it is now we live ina world that is so full and consumed of hate that we really don’t stand to see what we can do about it. I feel as though if we continue to just let stuff like this go on and contiune to happen the hatred will still continue and this problem will never be solved.

This is a very touchy subject and I after watching that video in class I was very touched because like even though it was acting I felt like some of the stuff he was saying to that girl was down right rude and ignorant. I feel as though how could we sit there and watch anybody get disrespected like that and just continue to ignore it and not do anything about it.
