I don't think it's practical in any society to not allow people to have cars; they definitely expand people's access to jobs, housing, hospitals, entertainment etc. Maybe only in Manhattan can you seriously not consider having a car. So, the answer is always to have cars with as little impact as possible, which always means better gas mileage/batteries/no exhaust/EuroIV-V standards etc etc.

But I also think Beijing may need to do more here to control the clearly worsening traffic; I personally think the congestion tax will be needed, like London does. And I'm personally willing to pay a bit more for having a car here. In the meantime, I bike to work everyday as usual!

Is Yadu getting better? I just checked their website (www.yadu.com) and they now seem to be partly owned by Westinghouse, a reputable group with a long legacy. The website mentions many purifiers, a couple with HEPA...

So sorry to hear that! It was a great deal. Unfortunately, I don't see anything else at a level until ~3000RMB, as you say, such as the Blueair 302 and others. Perhaps people can still save money by ordering from the US and shipping over, maybe using dong-xi.com and it still may be the cheapest option, since many ok small-room models reviewed by Consumer Reports start around US$180-250. Units like the Honeywell 50250; the Hunter Permalife/Quietflo series; Whirlpool Whispure 510 have fair reviews. I always like to start my consumer product searches at Consumersearch.com; here's their review of air purifiers: http://www.consumersearch.com/air-purifiers

Fun idea! Or some type of mood-ring fabric, instead of heat-sensitive, it would change color with pollution...

That's true! Those should sell like hotcakes everywhere. All these items above are OTC and can probably be found in many pharmacies, Watson's-type stores and even April Gourmet/Jenny Lous. We're trying to make our own pharmacy more of a consumer-oriented, "Walgreens" style place to shop for common items...

Keep us posted! I always see Respro as well; I would love to see objective data as to how effective they are.

Very interesting! Thanks. It does seem that each country is different, and the idea of refrigeration is not as common as keeping at room temperature...Most items I read remarked that cold eggs definitely don't cook as well as room temperature eggs, so that's a real issue for most of us, who likely don't take the time to warm up the eggs before we cook. Do other people notice a taste/quality difference?
