Why did i eat the second piece? I ate the second piece because i am not going to lie to myself and act like the son of god trying to save every one, i knew damn well that no matter what I would eat chocolate again so i am not one to lie to my self and try to act better then i am. Why did you not eat yet the second piece? I would be willing to bet that you have eaten chocolate since then you just like to think of your self as high and mighty, well you not. Like sam has said before that cell phone you use every day, is made my slave labor i am sure your not going to throw your cell phone away and never get a new one but you would love to bitch about it i am sure. Further more since you did not eat that piece of chocolate what did you do with it? so it is some bodies flesh so you essentially let some body die in vain. i know for damn sure if i died over a pice of chocolate i would want some body to at least enjoy the chocolate. you know what this is a perfect example of why women should stay in the kitchen. you like to think that you are better then everybody, how is the weather up there on your perch of greatness? if you feel so strongly about this issue you why do you not go and actually do some thing about it? i obviously in no way shape or form support slavery of any kind but i think it is extremely ignorant to act like your better then every one else just for not eating a piece of candy. why do you not say the same about you cell phone. or the shoes you are wearing or even your shirt. slave labor has a huge hand in a ton of industries so why do you not deal with all of those issues as well. its because people, american people, white american people especially love to act like they care and are doing something to help but in reality they do not and their not but i guess it makes them feel good if every one could just be honest with them selves, cause the majority of us are not going to do any thing about it, and just admit that we are not going to do anything about it the world would be a much much better place but what the hell do i know i just like to hear my self talk, but the one thing that i am one hundred percent certain of is that i am going to do so you know what i dont care
You bring up a valid point. Sam has this issue with clumping races together into two categories whites and all other races. he often refers to this as whites and colors. Asians are never really looked at as a separate race, although they obviously are and deserve to be treated as one. The reason i think wwe skip over the asian race in a race relations class is because asians in my opinion are not really discriminated against throughout history. they were never forced into slavery, they were never "really" considered immigrants compared to mexican people. Asians are, without sounding ignorant, not very interesting in the sense that they are treated well. Sam told us that they are the highest paid, make the most money and get the respect they deserve. If we think about the asians stereotypes, asians are good at math, asians are intelligent, that is not even bad. of course some people may take offense to this generally it is not that bad. To focus on the topic of can we tell the different between asian americans, Koreans, Chinese, Japanese and pacific islanders, i say NO WAY. I can not tell the difference between any of them, not in the least. I do not mean to be ignorant but i just cant tell. I have friend that can tell the difference between each nationality, where at in the country the person comes from everything. So this tells me that it is not them, they do not all look alike it is me, i just am not educated enough to tell the difference.. I am interested in Sam talking a little bit more about asians, because the only thing that is worse then being discriminated against, is being so unimportant that people dont even give you the time of day, people do not even consider them a different race. I mean how bad does that sound. I feel obligated to talk a little bit about the other stereotypes racing asians. They are considered bad at driving, they have small penises and they are freaks in bed (the women). The driving thing there os no way to say they are really bad at driving with a straight face, it depends on the person obviously, the small penis size was actually statistically proven, but that could have something to do with the other statistical fact, that they are shorter then the rest of the world. All in all i think we should bring up the topic of asians a little more in class. I want to know what they feel about my comments. Do they think we are ignorant for not being about to tell the difference between them, or are they understanding? Can they tell the difference between us? and what do they feel about other races?
For the last few years I have heard about white people becoming the minority group. When i heard about this back in high school i was upset, i was worried that things would chance, that life would be i don't know, different. At first i did not believe what i was hearing but then after hearing about it from a bunch of different sources i started to believe what i was hearing. I though about life and how it would be more multicultural, it bothered me. After getting to college and becoming more exposed to different races i started to become more accepting and more appreciated of others. On top of all that this class helped me to become more accepting more then any other experience I have had. To answer the question i still feel that twinge of concern. NO matter how i believe i feel or want to feel there is still that dormant feeling of concern that lies deep within. On the topic of affirmative action, i think it will be extinct, there will be no issue regarding employment. This really gets me thinking, a lot of the worlds problems will disappear, there will be less issues across the board. In conjunction with the 50 years that this world has to mature and that equal amount of whites to colors, i believe racism would be at an all time low. There is the flip side to this story though, history has a tendency to replace itself, with the loss of power from white people, they could become protective of what they have left and perhaps things could get worse. There are a lot of different things that could come out of this change in life. Regardless of how american handles this issue, it is going to happen, we can fight it and hate it but it is inevitable, white people will be the minority or at least equal amounts of whites and colored people. I do not mean to be stereotypical but we all know that some of the greatest sports players are black, spanish and others forms of the latino race. If we were to have say three times as many people of that category the pool of prospects would be three times bigger. The sports would would be unbelievable, it would be so much more entertainment, more home runs, more dunks in basketball and even better quarter backs. All in all i personally i would not mind being the minority, but i will not say i do not have fears, everyone has fears. In all aspects of life people will have fears and this is a big change. I will be almost 60 years old by the time white will be the minority, out of the work force and in retirement. CYA
I noticed this in class also and i think that it says a lot of the racial situation as a whole, i know most people will not agree with me and will not like what i am saying, but i think a huge part of the racial "issues" is that black or brown or just colored people in general are just to damn sensitive. Now obviously this is not the case all the time there is most definitely still out and down racism in the world but i think a good amount of it is that they are just to sensitive. Class yesterday was a perfect example when ever anything was said about a black person it was such a big deal but then black people could say what ever they wanted and none of the white people cared. I know personally, some one, of any race, color, creed, ethnicity, or anything could call me any name in the book and i am not going to care in the least or be even slightly offended. You can call me cracker honky douchebag motherfucker, anything, it does not bother me. But as soon as any white person drops the "N" word world word three is about to break out. First of all do people under stand that the "N" word, just like any other word is just a bunch of random lines assigned in an order to make a specific sound, that is all it is it is a fucking word every one needs to quit crying, and i do not mean just black people with that word i mean all people gay people offened by "faggot" or mexicans offended by "spic" a long with a million other examples. But what pisses me off more then anything in the god damn world is when black people use that word them selves. You want to talk about double standards look no further. If it is okay for you to use that word that it is okay for EVERYONE to use that word. The way i look at it is, when someone calls you one of these words, the are TRYING to piss you off and by be offended by them and causing an up roar you are letting the other person win. So if every one would quit crying, and stop being so god damn easy to offend it would go a long way i think in racial equality. so all in all, everyone just needs to take a chill pill, smoke a joint, do what ever it is you do to chill out and do it. but at the end of the day the only thing that i can be certain of is that i am going to die, so i dont really care.
I will be completely honest, when i hear this question, it to me sounds like the black community is trying to put blame, on the white community or at least alleviate some of the responsibility from them. It sounds like oh lets not blame the dealers on the street it is not their fault, lets blame who ever they are getting it from. Maybe thats not what she is trying to say but that is what i first think of when i hear it. Firstly how many drug king pins have any of us met? I do not know if she is the exception, but i myself have never met any, and most certainly could not tell you of the race or ethnicity so to me it sounds ignorant to assume that every drug king pin is a white guy. I feel like 90 percent of the reason that people think most drug kingpins are white are simply because of the movie "Blow" with Johhny Depp. In the movie Johnny Depp, who as we all know is clearly a white man, rises to prominence first selling marijuana, then hits the big time become the biggest suppler of coke in the USA, in one line of the movie he says 80% of the coke in the entire US market comes from him and as insane as it sounds this is why i believe most people thing the king pins are white. None of us have every met, will never meet, and have no idea who the drug kingpins are so we go back to what we do know, what we do trust, which is movies. Now i clearly do not know who the king pins are either but i am not naive enough to say that they are all a single race. But i do know my fair share of drug dealers. One of my best friends, who i have gone to school with since kindergarten just got busted dealing last week, he had over 100 perks, 6 ounces of pot and $2000 on him, and what i do know is that his supplier is black so does that man i should say its the black guys fault? No. also maybe the reason their are a lot of black dealers is because there are a lot of black users. The product will go to who demands it so its more the black users are the one causing the black sellers and also there are many drug dealers from where i am from, but not a single one of them is dumb enough to stand on a corner for 10 hours a day when every one in town knows damn well what he is doing, none of the drug dealers i know also will not sell to some random person that do not know. i think all these drug dealers that are getting caught are the dumb shits who do not have any idea what they are doing.
I attened Catholic School from kindergarten to my senior year of high school, so obviously i have had my fair share of bible talk, pretty much at least once a day at school for thirteen years we talked about the bible. Seeing as it was catholic school we took the interpretations of the bible quite literally. I grew up thinking that noah built a giant ark and collected every animal to put them on it, that jonah was swallowed whole by a whale a lived to tell that tale, and that Eve was made out of dirt and Adam's rib. As a young child in first or second or third grade, or whatever grade it is you do little, if any thinking on the realistic-ness of these stories. when i was a child i just looked at them as real life fairy tales, it was exciting and different to us we believed everything that we were told. But as you group up you start to thinking differently, like how in the world is one man going to round up a male and female rhino, with out getting killed, or male and female grizzly bears and live to tell the tale, the examples can go on and on. So as i have grown up i have become even more skeptical of what the bible says and what the catholic church wants us to believe. The more you think about it logically, it is extremely absurd that millions of people live their lives based on a 2000 year old book that some one found in the desert. For all we know the "Bible" could have just been like a novel to people back then, it could be their version of harry potter, or star wars, the matrix or any or thing that is in the world to day. If beings from outer space came down to earth today they would probably think we all worship a black mouse, with big ears, white gloves, and black pants, after all how many houses in the would have at least one thing of Mickey Mouse, i am thinking millions. So for some one to tell me that the bible has sexual references or, has a major them as sex, or that it is actually a manuscript for time travel, who am i to say other wise. We will probably never know what the bible really is, (unless it does in fact turn out to be a manuscript for time travel in which case we could go back in time to find out) I think there is probably just as much of a chance of the bible being an ancient harry potter as it does being the words of god.
I think that it is a very good observation that when ever the topic of race is brought up time and time again it always seems to steam back to the black and white race the debate. I think that a big part of this is due in fact because of slavery, slavery is such a blemish sort to speak, or wound to the relationship between black people and white people, for how ever many years it was we, as in white people, forced black people to work in our fields for nothing at all, even after slavery was "abolished" the conditions the black people went though was terrible, it might have in fact been even worse since their emplolyers did not even have to put a rough over their head, the white people also passed many laws trying to ensure the black people will remain at the bottom of the food chain sort to speak. its disgusting really to stop and think about what our ancestors actually did and it would make perfect sense to believe that that is the reason behind our rough relationship. But also the civil rights movement argument is also a very good theory, many of our parents witnessed the protesting in the streets and saw black people fight to have the rights that they deserved, so witnessing all that with black people specifically and not with latinos or asians or any one else probably had a huge impact on why the conversation goes back to the classic black white debate. Further more, with the civil rights side of the argument, those events occurred a lot more recently then slavery did so it is not only fresher in our mind but people who witnessed it and participated it are still alive. But what i think is also a huge influence and reason why the conversation constantly goes back to black and white is because the relationship we have together today, our culture's are completely different yet also inter twined with each other, hip hop which is primarily considered "black" music is embraced my many, many white people. Also in athletics these days especially basketball and football, blacks and white play together yet often times blacks dominate which shows how great efforts we have made in easing over the difference but we still obviously have alot of work to do. although this is my first experience with having conversations and debates with race relations so i am new to it and could be entirely wrong, so we will so how my theory pans out when the semester progresses, but when it is all said and done the only thing i can tell you and know for certain is that i am going to die, so i do not really care.
I first saw a preview for this movie during half time of the Eagles Cowboys game this year, it was some sort of special 5 minute kick ass preview that left me not being able to wait to see this movie. Even after watching the preview I did not actually have any idea what the movie was about but with all the "IMAX" "3D" hype surrounding the film and the non stop action showed in the previous, added to the fact that it was the great James Cameron's first film in years i knew i would have to be seeing it. After finally seeing the film i walked out of the theater in awe at the master piece i had just seen formed by the hands and ideas of Cameron. It was one of the best movies i have ever seen but at the end of the day, that is exactly what it was, a movie. I did not walk out of the theater and think, oh look another guy wanting to make white guys look like the king of kings always having to save the day, and the native's needing the help of the white man to survive and live in peace. The color of "the savior" i feel has no bearing on the quality of the movie itself the movie would have been just as good if Denzel Washington was the savior, as a matter of fact the movie would have been 100 times better if Denzel Washington was the savior, but then again that does not really mean much since every movie in the world would be better if it starred Denzel Washington since he is the greatest actor of all time as a matter of fact he, in my book at least might be the greatest man of all time, but i digress. But back to the movie, i think that very few people, very few, walked away from that movie, or any movie thinking he is an attempt to make white guys look the best. I get so frustrated when guys like this right articles about movies like it was a press release from the president or a news conference with the pope, it is a movie and just a movie. If one was so inclined to they could pick any five movies that had a similar plot and right an article that one group of people are being idolized and another group of people are being looked down upon. So i implore all of you too just watch and enjoy this cinematic master pieces and not too look in to everything like its a philosophical statement trying to influence people, but at the end of the day all that I am certain of is that i am going to die so i don't really care.
I remember watching this report when it first aired on ESPN back in 2006 and I had the same initial reaction then as I do now. The fact that racism of that magnitude still exists in this world today. In the United States people of all colors and nationalities come together in the name of sports, it may sounds silly but the sporting world has definitely helped decrease racism in America drastically. Maybe I have just lived a sheltered life but i have never personally witnessed any acts of racism and i feel that a good portion of "racism" in America today is simply over reacting. I obviously do not mean to say that there is absolutely no racism here today but it, i feel is very limited.
Back to the European soccer, or futbol, leagues i am extremely shocked that this kind of behavior still exists apparently like there is nothing wrong with it. I have a friend who is from England and while i have never talked to him specifically on the topic of racism in the stands he has told me many times the the intensity of rambunctiousness of the fans is unmatched to anything we have ever experienced here. He has told me that the closest thing he could compare it too here in America are actually riots in the street, and even that apparently does not do it justice. So the fact that these black players even have the courage to compete under these conditions. I have great respect for the play that stopped playing, picked up the ball and tried to walk off the field protesting the actions of the fans. The teams and leagues should have stepped long before this to stop these kinds of actions from continuing. FIFA also should have stepped in long before this also but i suppose that it is better late then never as long as they stick by what they say. All it will take is for them to take just one win, away from one team and the fans will start to learn that their actions have consequences and this racism should dissipate quickly from the stadiums. Although this also makes me think about what it is like to just be a black man or any person of color in European country. Is this intense and vicious racism just shown in the soccer stadiums or is it every where in the buses, trains, restaurants ect. I would very much like to know how the everyday racism differs from the racism on soccer day. I hope that it is just the intensity of the game and the thrill of being party of such a massive crowd that makes these people do and say some of the things that they say.
