Chris Heuer's Insytes : Social Media Domains for Sale or Partnering

I'd consider listing them on Sedo (sedo.com) or at the NameCheap MarketPlace, if you are a customer. Sedo is a bit of a de facto standard in the domaining world.

Michelle's Blog : American Apparel Baited Woody Allen into Suing Them

$15 million? With as many stores as they have and the kind of online business they do? That number hardly seems accurate. Personally, I could give a crap if Woody Allen sues them. I buy American Apparel because their goods aren't made by eight-year-olds in sweatshops in Bangladesh. They give their workers insurance and fair wages, and don't overwork them. Most of the "trashy ads" they put out are actually volunteers who willingly pose for them. So seriously, I don't care if they piss of Woody Allen in a fairly innocent way, because at least they aren't exploiting millions of people across the world who seemingly don't exist because we choose to ignore them.

I have always liked this site in terms of telling a story: www.souppeddler.com The Soup Peddler began his quest to feed Austin with his yummy soup in a menudo inspired dream. So creative and fun...and very good soup! http://www.souppeddler.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=... Shel Silverstein and Roald Dahl shaped me to be the goofball that I am today. Without them, I very well could have been a corporate slave to Da Man.

Michelle's Blog : Why I'm Supporting Brewster McCracken for Mayor of Austin

Various people in the tech community have Brewster's ear. Honestly, that's the first step. We didn't offer Brewster money--we just know what's good for the economy and for Austin, so he wanted to hear what we had to say. If we foster the international, money-making industries, the small companies will come to accommodate their tastes. If you look at New York and San Francisco, they are not lacking in small businesses whatsoever. Personally, I like the idea of always living downtown. I hate traffic and actually take my bike whenever possible. So although I wasn't a fan at first, I don't mind the high rises downtown. They are good for traffic and for the environment. And if for some strange reason Brewster decides we aren't important anymore and accommodates no one but the developers, I will crucify him brutally and publicly. I don't see this happening, but the option is there. Don't think I haven't launched a social media Google bomb before ;-) ...

Michelle's Blog : Why Old Media IS NOT in the Grave

Remember though, the vast majority of people do not use DVR. We often think of what people CAN do, instead of what they actually are doing. Not everyone is an early adopter. There are still a lot of people who watch TV the way our parents did.

Michelle's Blog : Why Old Media IS NOT in the Grave

If the internet is going for a small town feel, then why are you anonymous? I appreciate that social media and online marketing in general is important and the way things are heading. That's addressed in my first paragraph when I say, "I must admit that the vast expense of print and TV production will inevitably push them to a web-based platform." That's why I do what I do for a living. However, your sniper rifle approach doesn't compete with a nuclear bomb. And right now, TV is still a nuclear bomb of sorts. The vast numbers it attracts IN THE HERE AND NOW is impressive. Will it always be this way? I argue that even when TV moves entirely to the internet, people will still gravitate towards good content. And where there is good content, people will want to advertise because they want to appeal to a lot of people in a short period of time. Social media complements this, but I'm sorry, old media has some good content and isn't dead, much less coming from the grave. Why do Dell and Ford, some of the bigger brands leading the charge in social media, also advertise on TV? Why does Zappos purchase pay-per-click and sponsor shoes for TV shows? Will it always be this way? No. Does TV, local and national, still have sway? Yes. I just promoted Twestival here in Austin, which raised almost as much as London and San Francisco. I promoted it via 1.) Twitter 2.) Blogs 3.) Picking up the phone and calling people 4.) Emails. TONS of emails. Personal ones. 5.) TV 6.) Radio 7.) Facebook Twitter and blogs don't cut it. Seriously. People's Twitter feeds are channels that most people don't pay attention to.

David, Total agreement about ads. You'd be amazed at how many companies don't even create landing pages for them. Someone needs to create an ad network that is based on keywords. When a blog post about a certain topic comes up within the network, an ad pertaining to that topic pops up. Sounds like Google's ad network, except this service would be subscription based and would earn the blog/site a lot more money than using AdSense. It's time bloggers actually make a decent cut of their ad revenues. I also think advertisers under this model should pay something for impressions. They do help for branding. I got in this argument at SxSW with Chris Anderson when asking a question at his "free" panel'. He felt the current advertising model is not flawed. That is easy to say when you are backed by Conde Nast. Anyway, I hope you find what you are looking for for your "Wonder Boys" post. I'll keep posted.

@Robert, I'd say the Statesman is coming along nicely. You and I have talked about some ideas and I hope the higher ups see it your way. It would be good for the Statesman and for the city. @Jay I've worked with the Science Channel, which is part of the Viacom network. It really doesn't get any older media than that. The money that social media makes relative to what they are used to really pales in comparison. What they don't get is that it also doesn't cost much and the ROI is really good if you know what you are doing. They are used to a big network, rather than a bunch of loosely affiliated smaller yet more effective networks. Honestly, I could create a big post about how new media doesn't get that good content draws people in. I've been watching more TV and movies lately and I genuinely miss engaging content. I do feel that a lot of new media gurus are creating some silly ponzi scheme for how to get fame online. So I'm just trying to match the good content with the awesome medium (new media) to make something truly great happen. No kick upsides the head necessary--just trying to tell them that I appreciate them and would like to see them in this space as well.

I understand there are ugly comments, but there are also really good ones that newspapers miss out on. I wanted to comment on a post about ecommerce on Inc Magazine's site but couldn't. I was an expert in the field and my comments could have added to the conversation. My response to this is simply, pay your journalists more so they have time to moderate comments. Block IP addresses of trolls. That's actually very easy. Ugly comments are a part of life and anyone who does reputation management for a company has to deal with the same issues.

Michelle's Blog : How My Guernsey Cow Would Kick Seth Godin's Purple Cow's Ass

Seth, I didn't read the books. My issue isn't with the books, it is with the analogy of the title. Unless I need to get attention for my farm, I don't really need a purple cow. In fact, I'd be hesitant to even look at a purple cow because I would think the cow's premium would come with its color and not its bloodline. If someone reads your books and then decides they'd rather create quality products than outspend the competition with marketing blasts, then more power to you.
