Texas Startup Blog : Federal Bailouts for Startups?

I don't blame them for asking. As entrepreneurs they pursue different ways to be successful. If the government gives them money, good for them. But as a taxpayer, I don't want any of the automakers to be bailed out. They need to learn from the fact they operate at a loss.

North Carolina Startup Blog : Startup: easier than looking for a job?

I'm certainly not discounting the challenges of running a business (been there), but given the choice of looking for a job in a tough market and putting up your shingle, its certainly easier to START these days. Key difference is that when you look for a job you have so little control over your destiny; while some hiring manager has your future in their hands. I think one of the traits of the entrepreneur is wanting more control over their destiny (which certainly comes with a whole set of challenges). - marc

More on this from Alexander Muse of the Texas Startup blog ( http://www.texasstartupblog.com/2008/11/12/how-th...). Its a bit of a silver lining to the the economic downturn.

Kentucky Startup Blog : No Startup Culture in Kentucky?

Very fair comments. NC tends to get a similarly bad rap. Surely there is less activity here than CO, TX, CA, etc, but the fundamentals are in place. And the cost of living is lower than CA, MA, NY, etc. And that's why we're writing these blogs.

North Carolina Startup Blog : "Fresh Ideas, 2 cents a pound!"

I think you could be a very successful entrepreneur with only 1 great idea every 5 years, as long as you rock at execution (and have a little bit of capital). Often times the ideas get in the way. You get so excited about the next idea, that you can't find the time (or patience) to execute the last one. Its that idea filtering that can be a complete science in itself. I had a very interesting discussion about that with Jess Martin (organize of the recent start-up weekend here in Raleigh). The group had so many ideas, they wrestled with agreeing on 3 or 4 to "start-up" that weekend.
