I agree with liveload, If Pakistan has even a mediocre Air force they can easily shoot down all the drones and the various helicopters, but then they will have to face the B2s and nukes -- no defense against those. As long as those in power do not get too arrogant and start engaging Russia or China we will all be safe here. All the hype about AlQaida reach is way overblown.

News From Antiwar.com : Pakistan Denies Leaked Report's Claim of Alliance with Taliban

The last paragraph makes no sense, the reason is that the term 'Taliban' is indiscriminately applied to anyone and everyone. There are Afghan Taliban who are fighting the US and NATO forces, then there are so-called Pakistani Taliban who are fighting the Pakistani military. Then there are ordinary civilians who are killed by US drones or Pakistani shelling and they are posthumously indicted as Taliban. Hope this will clear up the confusion.

News From Antiwar.com : British Terror Plot: Four 'Islamists' Planned to Try to Blow Up a Toilet

As long as they can put Al-Qaeda, Islam, and blowing-up together in a news item the rest of the story doesn't really matter, The main purpose is to keep us scared and continue to eat up our tax dollars. If this causes a major problem for a tiny minority, that is a price worth it (or, for some, it is icing on cake).

News From Antiwar.com : Islamist Factions the Big Winners in Arab Spring

This is not true, only those are crushed who oppose Western hegemony. Although there have been many secular leaders there really has been no mass secular movements (only nationalist ones) in the Muslim world. In Turkey the secularists gained power after a coup. In Iraq and Syria Baathists took control after military coups. In Pakistan, a secular military dictator Ayub Khan took control after a coup. These were not mass movements. And the secular dictators were supported by the US as long as they were 'friendly' to us.

News From Antiwar.com : Iran Warns Arab Rivals Not to Interfere With Hormuz, Sanctions Issues

It may just be ironical (or by design, who knows?) but our government's recent adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan have only helped Iran and not the so-called Sunni regimes in the region. Before the US invasion, Afghanistan's Northern Alliance was actively supported by Iran in their war against the Taliban. Now NA is ruling that country. And, the close ties of the current leaders of Iraq with the Irani regime is quite a contrast with Saddam's policies.

News From Antiwar.com : Pakistan: Fully Functional Air Defense Installed Along Afghan Border

There is zero chance of Haqqani or the non-existent AlQaida taking control of the air defense system. However, at some point in time the Pakistani Air Force might think it appropriate to start shooting down the drones. If the US decides to go for an all out war in response to the shootings then that would be catastrophic.
