It will most likely be compatible, but we don't think that the iPod Touch makes a good platform for this because location accuracy will be bad, and coverage really, really spotty.

We just pushed a major update to how our location resolution works, and we're currently in the process of merging locations that might have gotten duplicated, like the example you mention. Should be taken care of in the next few days.

Rest assured that we're still working on it. We might have something for a few beta testers in the next couple of weeks. When the time comes, we'll announce it on our blog. Thanks for being patient. I realize that waiting sucks, but we just don't feel comfortable releasing the current version to the world just yet.

It's not well integrated, and will only show people's public location (since you're not logged in), but try putting

http://brightkite.com/people/<your username>/friends.kml

into your iPhone's Google maps app. You should get your friends on the map. We'll have better support for this in the native app.

If you want to check in at an address, you use the first form. If you want to check in at a business, you use the second form. If you want to look up a user (maybe you want to join them), you use the 3rd form. If you think that we can make this easier and have concrete suggestions, I'm all ears ;)

We have Google Maps integration, so I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "3D map". Obviously, in the generic mobile version, which doesn't use Javascript, we can't integrate the draggable maps. We have static map images, though.

Thanks for the write-up :) Regarding your suggestions:

- Comments and @replies are in the works right now...expect them soon
- We're working on adding a 'status' to users that would take care of the 'joinable' idea
- Concerning the "fun" part, we have some "fun" stuff coming...I think you'll like it
- Checkouts are coming back (we used to have them). You can actually check out via SMS right now, by texting LEAVE.
