Sometimes, a wake-up call is needed. After asking my daughter (16) to vacuum her bedroom, she used one of those battery-operated "super sweepers". I told her it needed to be vacuumed she fought me - tooth & nail - for an hour, claiming it was a vacuum cleaner. (Duh.) So, as she continued to argue, the "super sweeper" sweeping head met its violent end against a brick wall in our garage. She was shocked, but had to use the good ol' Hoover the next day. A little "shock & awe" is sometimes needed to wake-up the teen brain.
