I live about half an hour from the Canadian border, so we get CBC on our cable service. I can honestly say I've never watched this dreck, but have only seen the previews. Having seen many government sanctioned CBC programs, I only have this to say...lame, lame, lame. Just the 30 second commercials make me simultaneously cringe and roll my eyes - I can't imagine what kind of reaction I would experience if I were to force myself to watch an entire episode! One thing that I have noticed is that the local Christian minister is played as a stereotypical, obnoxious, bigoted cartoon character. I don't really understand how this crap is entertaining, but then I've seen who they consider "Canada's favorite funnyman" (even has his own show) - and he's about as funny as a kick in the crotch with a golf shoe.
Thank you so much, Mr. Zucker! I actually felt like I had lost a member of my family yesterday when I found out Leslie had passed! I would always get excited for a movie when I found out he was in it, no matter how stupid it sounded. One of my favorite later roles of his was in Scary Movie 3 - I actually screamed with glee when he opened the door and said "I just want to tell you both, good luck - we're all counting on you!" Of course, I think I was probably the only one in the theater that night who was old enough to have gotten it...but that's neither here nor there...
Rest in peace, Leslie...may no one call you Shirley, wherever you may be.
OK, now I am completely green with envy! My dad and I were talking recently about the places we wanted to visit, and of course Austria was one of them. My dad is a skiing fanatic, so I think my mum and I would just sit in a warm cozy lodge while he tackled the Alps! One of my favorite parts of TSOM is during the opening credits and the "intermission" when it shows the different locales around Salzberg...absolutely breathtaking! And I always get a little misty when the camera pans across the mountainside and Julie starts twirling and singing. I am so bummed that I missed the Oprah episode with the cast! Maybe I could check Hulu...
LOL! I often sing along to "Sixteen Going On Seventeen" when I'm at work...my co-workers are not amused when I dance along too...when I jump up on the chairs and do the high kicking, they all run for cover!
I'm definitely not laughing, ladcraig! "The Sound of Music" has always been a favorite of mine and my dad's - he had bought the soundtrack album in Italy when he was in the service, and at the age of 4 I "borrowed" it from him (nope, he never got it back). We try to watch the movie at least once a year, usually around Christmastime. But, for a little pick-me-up, it always works like a charm! I laugh, I cry, I sing along to all the songs, and then I don't feel so bad! (Sorry, couldn't resist!)
Several years ago, my friend Tish announced that we were going to watch "The Ring", even though she knew I didn't like scary movies -- but we did watch it...me sitting on the edge of my seat with my hands partially over my eyes, she cowering on the couch with a blanket pulled up to her nose, and her husband next to her, laughing his butt off at us. I'll be the first to admit it -- I didn't sleep a wink that night! However, I bought a used DVD of the movie and watch it every once in a while (after turning the phone off, of course). I believe that one steely gray and rainy day, I was alone watching it and forgot to turn the phone off, and the damn thing rang as the movie ended...hell yeah, I jumped! Might have peed a little too, but that's neither here nor there...
I remember watching this film in my American History class - the scene that has stuck with me the most was when their bodies were tossed into the mass grave - black & white together. Even before that, I was brought to tears by the haunting score. I believe the teacher still shows this movie to his class every year. This is one movie that I think everyone should watch. Now I'm going to have to watch it again!
I've loved Vince Vaughn ever since I saw him in Swingers (still one of my favorite movies)...seeing him supporting our troops just makes me love him even more! He has always been money in my book - especially with the Marshall Plan retort. For once a Left Coast celeb can put his money where his mouth is! God bless you Vince, and God bless our brave troops!
I only wish it were that easy! Maybe even jump in the Wayback machine and stop this madness from ever happening?
The only thought that runs through my mind when I see the pic of Barry & Ben..."I just can't quit you!"
