I'll never forget walking on the Pearl St Mall with my wife, holding hands, running into Laverne, exchanging pleasantries, then enjoying spontaneous recitations of love poems, from Laverne. What a good soul. I will miss him. He was a wonderful diversity in our community.
The idea of participating in the never-ending escalation of salaries for fear of losing people... it's absurd. Let them go, let them compete with the leaders of other universities. We don't need salary-spinning musical chairs like CEOs in industry "compete" in. Let them leave, and camp out on the door steps of other universities, hoping to get a job. Then, get someone younger, early in a career promoting education instead of self-promoting .
Ah, Howard, I'm so sad that you are gone. From working with you, I know that you were extremely knowledgeable and so willing to share that knowledge. Moreover, you were warm hearted, kind and caring. You were a wise man.
Regarding percentages... the dollar amounts are also given. You can see that the increase in fees is much more than the decrease in dollars of funding. You can dig into the details about earmarks and other details. The point is, and I think it is clear from previous years, that the tuition is going through outrageous increases.
Why is Boulder (City and County) getting so reactionary in recent years? Time and again they are siding on being more restrictive of individual liberty and permissive of corporate liberties.
I can't support it. RTD blew it by not giving Boulder County enough. I'm not going to repeat my vote last time. Nearly 1% in sales tax going to RTD? That's huge. They should repeal the current 0.4%, or reduce it, and focus on good bus service, using, for example, higher frequency small buses where sensible.
I'm glad to read your comment. The Tebow phenomenon is so bizarre. All of professional sports is to me, because of the disproportionate importance it is given. Throughout the week, the local news reports on it. Even the TV meteorologists give weather forecasts for games. But, it serves only 76,000 people out of the millions in the Denver area. On Sunday, the religious day. Why isn't the same fervor applied to a local musical group or Odyssey of the Mind or a local team of researchers in the national competition to cure cancer?
Yeah, great work, firefighters, getting on those so quickly!
I think we should allow camping, even tent cities, whatever it takes to provide for less fortunate people in our society, especially now, the way the economy is. Look at the poverty reports. More and more people are in financial trouble. Your fellow citizens are getting screwed. It could be your neighbor, who loses their home. These aren't strange, disturbing people, they are our friends.
