Big Hollywood : Media Outlets Pounce on Bill O'Reilly for Saying Houston Wanted to 'Destroy' Herself

If I didn't have a drug addict in my own family I might think of Bill O'Reilly's comments as particularly harsh. However, they ring true. There are some folks out there who do seem to have a death wish.

Big Hollywood : Katy Perry, the Simpson Sisters and Exchanging Faith for Fleeting Fame

Like you, I grew up in a Pentecostal church. And perhaps I have had one too many digs/insults about how I grew up - I'm thinking that probably led to my comments last evening. I still think the article was a bit short-sighted. It was as if she chose a handful of random people and made blanket statements about their backgrounds & how they are going to turn out. She could just as well chosen some who came from similar backgrounds and turned out well. It seemed very negative, judgmental and dare I say un-Christian. I am glad that you were well-versed in the Word and were able to recognize what was real and what wasn't.

Well, I guess I need to watch TBN a little more closely since so many of you seem to agree that it isn't what I thought. As I've said originally, I have watched it before but mainly during Easter when they were showing movies. I just assumed that the folks were decent people, albeit a little gawdy in their dress and manner. I still don't like the original article. The writer came of as very smug and random in her choosing of who is a good Christian and who isn't. I grew up in a Pentecostal church and still get little digs from my mother-in-law (a Methodist). Perhaps I was associated the writer with my MIL. LOL! When one type of Christian is seen attacking another it turns a lot of people off of church and Christianity in general.

I've watched TBN a time or two. While the folks might be a little out of the box compared to mainline ministers (and their clothing/make-up choices sometimes questionable), I wouldn't say that they lack "humility, holiness, and grace."

I kind of have to agree with you. Obviously, time will tell but other than a divorce I haven't seen anything that would suggest she is a "trainwreck waiting to happen." Lots of people divorce and they didn't attend charismatic churches.

As another commenter pointed out, Justin Bieber agreed to a paternity test & the matter was dropped so it isn't fair to put him on this list. And while an interesting connection, I'm not so sure that entertainers growing up in charismatic churches fair worse than those growing up in mainline churches or ones who didn't grow up in a church at all. Pulling a handful of entertainers out of the bunch seems kind of random.

Big Hollywood : Hollywood's Pedophile Fantasy: 13-Year-Old Raped, Held as Sex Slave in New Film

My cousin is a strong person. But her past rears its ugly head now & again & she depends on her family, friends, pastor, church family & mental health professionals to help her get back on track. But she soldiers on.

I am conservative & will not hesitate to say that I absolutely loathe the \"toddlers in tiaras\" pageants. Do you remember \"Glamour Shots?\" Back in the day my mom's friend had her daughter dolled up for one of those photos. No harm just having some fun. She was a postal clerk & sat out the picture - for about a day. Creepy men kept asking & commenting on the pic.

Sent from my iPhone

Thank you. She's a grownup now & has a family of her own. I admire her so much. She has had some really dark days but she has tried really hard to move on with her life. And she's a wonderful mom. Like you, I hope I don't live long enough to see the next "movement."

My 11 year-old cousin was repeatedly molested and raped by a man old enough to be her dad. To this day, I get very angry thinking about people's responses. Even in this day and age "people" will blame it on a child. Don't you know that some 11 year olds are just asking for it? The whole Roman Polanski fiasco and movies like these make me realize that there are some real sickos out there who have an agenda to sexualize our children. My mom, as plain-spoken a woman as I've ever known, often says that the next "rights" movement will be to make it okay for grown-ups (men) to be with children (boys).

I have not watched "Flight 93" yet - just as I was unable to watch much of yesterday's memorial. I have it on the DVR & will build up the courage to do so. Yesterday felt as if a decade had passed in an instant. I was moved by the memories of many of my Facebook friends yesterday - the "where we were" statuses. It started out as an ordinary day for all of us. One of the biggest lessons I learned personally is that I never, never let my husband or son leave the house without me telling them that I love them. May we continue to stay vigilant and to never forget.

Big Hollywood : The English-Speaking Cyrano: Mark Steyn

All is takes to know that Mark Steyn is a genius is to read the vile letters he receives each week. He posts them proudly on his website with a little note that he especially enjoys reading them. I don't always like what Steyn writes (not that I don't believe him, but it is depressing to see how western culture is slipping) but I am grateful that there is such a articulate voice out there promoting conservative values.

Big Hollywood : London Looters Are A-Holes

I have always admired how the Brits endured the Blitz. . You have to admire that "stiff upper lip" attitude. It's a shame that it has been replaced with the entitlement culture. My best friend is English (now living in the US) & I have visited England (only once) & love it so. Your observation about the gutting of the amazing British cultural history is spot on - quite similar to how we've forgotten our roots here in America. I have been following the rioting and speaking with my friend daily. Her mother is outraged at how these thugs are bringing shame on her country. I was following the #londonriots topic on twitter yesterday and it just made my blood boil. When someone suggested that these "people" lose their "entitlements" there was a flurry of people saying, "But then they'd feel even more disenfranchised." I'd say that the comments in support of the cockroaches far outweighed the denouncement of them. Something my friend told me came to mind yesterday. About a year or so ago her niece back home in England was upset because her school had tacked on an extra year (maybe 2? can't remember) before the students could graduate. It seems that the youths were finishing school and not going to work. They were hanging around and causing trouble, so the solution was add more school time to keep them off of the streets. The only humor I found yesterday was that aluminum baseball bats were the #1 seller on Amazon UK. I felt like using one myself.

Big Hollywood : Are the Arts Gay Enough?

Has anyone ever watched "The Graham Norton" show on BBC America? If not, Graham Norton is a flamboyant gay t.v. show presenter (we call it a "host" here on the other side of the pond) who just cracks me up. As a coincidence, this morning's show was a repeat of one that got him in a bit of hot water. He was doing a segment on useless inventions. One was of a strange jumpsuit that would allow women to easily use the bathroom. Anyway, when he showed the pencil diagram/drawings of the jumpsuit, the figure was of a quite a large, butch-looking woman. He kept referring to her as a lesbian. What did he get in trouble for? For perpetuating gay stereotypes. The man himself is a gay stereotype. And btw, would anyone like to wager a guess as to how many complaints were made? The answer: one.
